AWARDS 2014

The new Pixelmator for iPad ($5) from Pixelmator Team is a top-notch photo editing app. We've long been fans of Pixelmator for Mac, and it's amazing how much functionality — and how many features, including collage design, repair tools, and color correction — are packed into the iOS version. If you're serious about photo editing on an iPad, or just want to watch the evolution of Apple's tablets into laptop replacements, you should see it.
Breeze (Free) from FitnessKeeper is a fun, free step-tracking app that's perfect for people looking to get into fitness tracking at its most basic. Vito Technology's Star Walk 2 ($3 + IAP) is a notable upgrade over the prior version; it's a must-have for anyone interested in astronomy. Transmit ($5) from Panic is a very good file transfer client that's made its way over from Mac. And Yahoo's Yahoo News Digest (Free) is a smart, attractive news app that is constantly updated, with separately beautiful designs for iPhone and iPad.
