Mass Fidelity's Core ($599) isn't waterproof, and it's likely out of the price range of most consumers in the market for a Bluetooth speaker. But as a portable speaker to tote around the home, it's tough to beat the Core, which offers truly great sound in a relatively small package.
Braven's BRV-XXL ($350) is portable — but barely. A gigantic 18-pound boombox, BRV-XXL is a water-resistant speaker suited for outdoor parties, tailgates, and the like, with plenty of bass and volume, and surprising clarity. Creative took its Sound Blaster Roar 2, shrunk it down a bit, and added splashproof protection to make its iRoar Go ($200). The speaker offers an array of features, and its "SuperWide" sound fills a room well for its size.
