iOS 7: Playing tracks by Genre

What if you don’t want to shuffle? I want to use the genre to look at a list of all the songs I have in that genre, and then select the specific song/songs I want to listen to.
I don’t want to have to shuffle through until I find a song in that genre I want to listen to. They screwed this up big time in this update.

Removing Purchased Apps from iCloud

There’s a bug in recent versions of iTunes 12 where the “X” doesn’t actually appear when you hover over a purchased app icon, but despite this, it’s actually still there…. If you hover over an app icon, and then move your mouse up to the top left corner, where the “X” should be, the pointer icon should still change to show a clickable region, and clicking in that area will prompt you to hide the app, much as it works for music and videos.
If it’s easier, you an also hide items from your iOS devices by going to your purchase history, swiping from right-to-left on the item you want to hide, and tapping the “Hide” button which appears.

Removing Purchased Apps from iCloud

iTunes will let me hide songs and videos, but not apps. Any ideas?

Can I transfer the existing version of an app to my new iPhone?

Well, an even easier way and one that avoids messing with Restore (who wants to go through all that hassle and losing stuff)...

Just find the app in the iPhone 4 backup folder and drag and drop it onto your iPhone 6 in iTunes.  No fuss, no mess and voila!  Old version on your iPhone.  You can often have both there!

Now, in some cases, alas, app developers get. A sty and mandate the update… Hence, when you open up an old app, it will NOT run, but demand an upgrade.  Often times, a slightly older version yet of the older app will work.

Can I transfer the existing version of an app to my new iPhone?

There’s also an app called iMazing which will allow you to backup an entire app, including its sandboxed data, to which you could then “install” it into another iOS device.  As long as the app doesn’t have any internal detection mechanisms or encryption, it should pick up where the app left off, otherwise it will start the app from scratch.

How do I cancel a print job on iOS?

Great tip. Let me suggest this site use Facebook logins or something similar. It would likely boost the comments section.

Can I cancel or 'unsend' sent iMessages?

i have an I pod-I pad min and just bought an iPad Air plus an iPhone 5s
My question is what kind of printer can I use so that I can print something on any one of the above units. Every time I go to a tech retail store I am told that a “printer” will not printer from all these units.  Is that true?  I am confused???

How do I find and remove only downloaded tracks with iTunes Match?

This still doesn’t work for me on iPhone 5 iOS 8.1.3. When I swipe right on a song, album or artist, nothing happens. What’s going on?

What can I actually share with Family Sharing in iOS 8?

I do family sharing as well.  Its actually not as complicated as one might think.  When you set it up, it actually lists what will be shared.  Assume anything else, like in-app purchases and subscriptions won’t be shared.  If anything, Family Sharing is too limited, instead of inconsistent.

How do I turn off Reachability on the iPhone 6 Plus?

I’m glad I came across this. I’ve had the damn screen bouncing up and down since I got this iPhone 6 and thought it was a bug. I knew of reachability but thought it was for the 6 Plus only so I never looked into whether what I was experiencing was that.

This might be useful for some but I question whether it should be enabled by default. I seriously thought it was some sort of bug and was waiting with each iOS release for it to be fixed.

How do I turn off Reachability on the iPhone 6 Plus?

That was a great question and I’m glad to know how to disable it. I find that Reachability on the 6 Plus is useless because of phone’s size and perfect balance. The home button is so far down that it’s harder to reach than the top of the screen because the human thumb simply doesn’t bend like that.

Ten Things You Didn't Know About Apple's HomeKit

One more thing:
Unlike other annoying MFi protocol, HomeKit device can be supported without manufacturers ask for a MFi chip.
There’s only a warning sign when registering the device, but it’s unlikely for Apple to ban non-MFi HomeKit device. (It requires them banning all developers write HomeKit apps)
So, taps long as the device can be mapped with HomeKit service types (light/fan/thermostat/camera/microphone/garage door/door lock/switch)
any firmware update for HomeKit is possible.

Ten Things You Didn't Know About Apple's HomeKit

Just for 2:
You could dim the light with HomeKit and Siri. (At least with iOS 8.1)
In iOS 8.2, you can still change brightness with direct command like “set the light to 50)

(I’ve been using HomeKit to control my light since October. I know what I can do with it. )

Ten Things You Didn't Know About Apple's HomeKit

I saw a video where the person from Chamberlain said that their existing remote garage door would be homekit compatible when a firmware update was released later this year. This is contrary to #9.

Hands-on with CarPlay at CES 2015

I am impressed.
Thats exactly the device, i am waiting for since years:
Not another bunch of devices and apps for the car, but (simply) reuse the best (and best known) device and only improve the direct interaction with it : fix mounting, big screen, good readability (size, contrast, ...).
Two questions remain:
1. How about the sensors like microphone ( for phone and siri ) and GPS SENSOR for Nav ? Is there a connection to use external devices ?
2. pioneer is selling a CarPlay product AppRadio SPH-DA120. Is this the described product above or is it another new one .

Exchange text messages between two iPhones with no cellular data plan

I also set this up for my son. He is able to text me from my old iPhone 4s (no plan). Basically it’s like using an iPod Touch. Does anyone know how to setup FaceTime in a similar fashion? I would like to be able to FaceTime with my son while he is on a Wifi network.

I am an AT&T customer so I’m assuming I can FaceTime using data or Wifi.

Last-Minute Holiday Gift Guide for 2014

Wow. Great List! Thanks! How would you compare the Infinity speaker to the UE Boom? Price is similar but I haven’t heard much about the infinity, and the UE is on a lot of top 10 lists.

I also have the Devicewear Ridge on my iPad Air 2. Its like the skinny pro look, but looks a bit thinner/lighter and offers more stand angles and a typing angle. But now I wish it had that sexy angle on the back like the skinny pro.

Instant Expert: Secrets & Features of iTunes 12

I had to rebuild my PC and I lost all my playlists. But I still have them on my IPod. A lot of the music was from my own CD collection. How can I safely transfer what’s on my IPod back into my PC in this version of ITunes? I surfed around for 15 minutes but can’t find a way to do this.
