How to create smart playlists in iTunes

Criteria can be combined with AND or OR boolean operators : when you have 2 or more criteria, a box appear at the top near “match the following condition” where you can choose how to combine.

True that you can’t mix AND and OR, but to me, that would be useless and harmful to the clarity of this wonderfull user interface

First Looks: iTrip, iPod Armor & FlipStand

I have the iTrip and am not pleased with it. I use it in my car and get lots of static. There are very few open frequencies and I’ve tried almost everyone with the same results.

How to create smart playlists in iTunes

Not sure if it is OK to plug other sites, but http://smartplaylists.com/ has a lot of suggestions.  I have no affiliation.

My favorite playlist is: Last Played is not in the last 14 days.  I called this Freshen up because it means I have not heard the song for awhile (at least 2 weeks!).  Good way to cycle through your songs.

How to create smart playlists in iTunes

Ahh… Nice find.  Thanks.  I’ll have Dennis correct that.

You can right click on any iTunes playlist and select “Export Song List…” to create a text file playlist.  Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any way to import that file into MMJB.

How to create smart playlists in iTunes

Jerrod,

Great article, very informative.  Wondering, though, if perhaps this is a typo:

““Live Updating,” when checked, allows iTunes to constantly add to or remove from your Smart Playlist as songs are added or removed from your Library. If you want to “freeze” your Smart Playlists in time, select this.”

Did you mean to say “if you want to “freeze” your Smart Playlists in time, UN-select this”?

Also - quick sort-of related question.  Playlists that are created in iTunes - can they be used in Musicmatch?  I know it works the other way around, but I can’t seem to figure out how to access iTunes playlists in MMJB.

Thanks!

Cheryl

How to import CD tracks to iTunes

Some CD’s seem to be mastered awfully loud.  While its great for listening on the stereo, when I ripped it onto Itunes there was clipping galore all over the place.  Is there a solution to this?  Sorry if this has been answered.  I’m a newb when it comes to this stuff (just got an ipod).

How to import CD tracks to iTunes

CD Rip protection? How does iPod handle that? There are a number of new CD’s out, the Dare Devil Soundtrack I know off hand, that has a special CD Rip Protection code on it that prevents successful “ripping”. It’s been one of my biggest pet peeves about this sound track. (Think of it as a VHS movie fading in and out on playback of a copy).

Will iPod successfully rip this CD into MP3 or even AAC format correctly with out the distortion in the songs (fading, beeping or ‘scratch’ sound).

How to import CD tracks to iTunes

hi. . HELP! i’m not sure if what i’m about to ask has already been posted, but there are just too many comments for me to read. anyways, i’m having a hard time with my iTunes because since most of my cd’s are writable, iTunes doesn’t recognize it, so i have to tag each and every one of the songs. but the hard part is looking for the album title. does iTunes have a program or something which will recognize the song and artist then will provide the album where the song is from? i tried the search engine but it usually ends with a “none” or “no search is found”, i wrote finger 11 and they didn’t have finger 11. i’m looking for something like the “look up tags” from musicmatch, or whenever you play a song in realone player, the album where it’s form is shown. i hope someone out there understands me. thank you.

How to import CD tracks to iTunes

Hi - New to ipod and itunes and I’m having the same problem EnderWiggin is having. I put the CD in, try to get track names… but nuthin. And the times are all screwed up too. I have a cable internet hookup that on all the time so it should be connecting to the CDDB no problem. I’ve tried re-installing itunes with the same result.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I really want ot love this great gift my wife gave me but so far just frustration…

Thing-

You can set it up either way.  Come to the forums, and we’ll help you to set it up the way you’d prefer it to be.

Iain…I don’t see where you are getting the rudeness from, but ok

Bernell Dorrough your little bit on supply and demand are a bit off. That is not how supply and demand works. Sorry. If more people want Apple products the price will go up unless supply goes up with demand. It’s confusing, but what you said made little economic sense. So i guess it’s not a simple principle after all.

How to import CD tracks to iTunes

Maybe a very silly question, but is each song “stored” on both the i-pod and the PC or just on the i-pod?

Yay! I didn’t realize that you could crank the bitrate so high. I figured that 128 kbps was the max for my CDs when ripping. I’d always used WMP for ripping, and converted later, but my new 320 kbps mp3s are audio bliss. mmmm…...

How to create playlists in iTunes

To brucepiv: If u’re not using the “Latest” of Apple upgrades on software, run and download ‘em now. I had similar problem. Upgraded my ipod now everything works as advertised. I was also told to delete any software u may have loaded out of box. U only need the latest version of itunes and your ipod period.
