MWNY03: A look at iPod accessories

good report and i was there as well so i gave the place a once over looking for ipod product.  A few booths only had prototypes but it seems every man and his dog will be producing a ipod cover/wallet.  I purchased a nice nappa leather ipod holder from booq, which is a great fit with an iskin covered ipod.  Without the iskin it’s not such a great fit but it’s a heck of a case, as for theuir laptop cases, well they were the best on display at macworld.

heh, sorry to bring this back up again….  The posts by noname and that other guy who said those pictures are a political statement….  Man, that’s one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard!  tslice took a picture of him and his iPod.  The tanks and stuff were there.  End story.  sheesh! wink

tslice, good job on the story, keep it going grin

Will any MP3 player ever catch Apple's iPod?

I think relying on the 1.8” hard drive for the iPod is an Achilles Heel. It drives up the cost, reduces the options to add standard media jukebox features such as microphones, recording and video circuitry, but most importantly it limits the iPod’s capacity!

http://eetimes.com/sys/news/OEG20030718S0038

Hard disk manufacturers are now phasing out the 3.5” hard drive format and moving to the 2.5” format. Apparently the latest SATA drives use 2.5” platters anyway—the casing is just supersized to 3.5” to fit today’s machines.

Anyway, if the market converges on 2.5” as the new form factor, then the iPod is SOL, but all the Zen/Archos/Nuovo and so on that use 2.5” form factor drives will suddenly be able to offer 100-200 GB of on-device storage. Will there be a similar trickle-down effect for the iPods?

Will any MP3 player ever catch Apple's iPod?

yeah there is no doubt apple inovate. I dont like macs all that much but use them everday at work.. but if i was considering getting a notebook i wouldnt even look twice at pcs.. i love my 933 ibook and my powerbook that i have at work. no pc compaires power to price (and sexy looks) to the ibook.
The HDD100 will cost about 350 so i’m told so same as 15 gig ipod.

and its weird but the thing i like the most about it is that its black (i have become very sick of silver gadgets) and white is allready taken smile

iPod Adventures in the Middle East: Part I

I left my iPod in a P.A (public address) for about 5 hours, and it got extremely hot… when i took it out, there was a horizontal line that didnt dissappear even when contrast was changed… it went away after a day…

Switching from MP3 to AAC Without Losing Your Mind

if i rip a track using MMM4 instead of itunes, will i still be able to listen to the result on my ipod?  if so, will i be able to benefit from the increased quality that QTpro will be able to offer?  thanks for the help!

iPod Adventures in the Middle East: Part I

In reference to the question re: copying songs from one ipod to another… I have found one situation in which I was successful. There are however conditions…
You must have a WINPOD and access to a PC with NERO burner.
-Open the winpod in NERO Burner
-Grab all the Music folders and pull them to the hard drive in one folder
-Do a find for all the music files in the main folder
-Move all the music files to One folder
-Connect the other winpod and add the songs.

Im sure there is a better way than these Neanderthal antics, but thats all I ve got at the moment.

Will any MP3 player ever catch Apple's iPod?

How much does this Philips HDD100 cost? I just saw one at their website, but they are not at Amazon yet (they get everything fast).

If it works as advertised, then it’s cool. However, there is no getting around the fact that the iPod stepped MP3 players up to the next level. It stands to reason that somebody would eventually catch up and challenge Apple. They always do; for example, iBook, iMac (original and new one), 17in Powerbook, Airport, Airport Extreme, G5, need I go on? All these products are at the top in their class. Some are even being challenged. Does that mean they are suddenly “yesterday’s news?” Maybe. But I doubt it. Apple is always about innovation and they will continue. I wouldn’t be surprised if they step it up to the next level again; perhaps a color screen? How about voice activation? Recording capabilities? (The Philips HDD100 has that now)...

I am the proud owner of a Philips HDD100 and I can tell you that it rules.
I don’t know if I would swap it for an iPod as I’ve since played with an iPod and it looks very ‘basic’ in comparision.

My iPod Buying Experience

I have an insurance check arriving within the next day or two.  My plan is to go out and immediately pick up the 30GB iPod (along with a number of other electronic goodies).

I just discovered these new gadgets yesterday and after doing some research on the’net I’m sold!

Like an earlier poster I’m a former radio DJ, and several years ago owned a mobile DJ business that I worked part-time.  I have over 400 CDs, more than 1200 record albums and about 500 45s in storage.  It’ll be a lot of work, but eventually the best of the best will reside on my new iPod.  And what favorite songs I don’t have I’ll download.

Imagine what we have to look forward to in the years to come!

Thanks to all for the great information shared on this site.  I’ll look forward to seeing more as well as offering my own input from time-to-time in the months ahead.

Best regards from Seattle Wa.

Nas “Memory Lane”, I love that song.  I also like that whole CD.  Illmatic was a classic.  “It aint hard to tell” and “Lifes a *****” are also great songs.
Hope your enjoying yourself!

Switching from MP3 to AAC Without Losing Your Mind

Joey J’s comments above are so right.

To answer his questions: the best CD-> WAV extraction tool is Exact Audio Copy (free) http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

The best storage format is Monkey’s Audio http://www.monkeysaudio.com/ which uses LOSSLESS compression of around 50% and I believe supports tags. It also decompresses to give you exact original WAV files if required.

The really good news is that the two programs can work together i.e. you can rip straight to Monkeys Audio.

Switching from MP3 to AAC Without Losing Your Mind

I agree with fanihi and have recently ripped to AAC @ 160.  This probably encodes at a quality equalling mp3 @ 192 and that is good enough for my needs and is economic with disk (and ipod) space.
