Deleting old iCloud Backups

That’s a great guide if you want to delete an iCloud backup, but make sure you have an iTunes backup at hand for restoring, you never know when you might need it!

Deleted photos in Camera Roll also removed from albums

I find this to be the most infuriating system of photo management that I can imagine (a problem Gmail shares with its similar email tagging system).  My fondest hope for iOS 7 was that it would allow one to actually “move” photos out of the camera roll into their own folders.  But, alas, it was not to be.

iOS 7: Playing tracks by Genre

Unfortunately the workaround does not work. I tried it and I typed Gospel. It did bring up 9 albums and 10 songs, but it only selected them because Gospel was some where in the title. It left out the other 150+ songs I have in this category. Frustratingly enough, I’ve resorted to the playlist and will look into iTunes Match

iMessages being sent as Text Messages

We don’t txt in our family, avoiding the txt’ing plan charges. Just started to use iMessage to send some quick airline travel progress updates, so we’re in the know, without slow email or having to interrupt the other person’s work day with calls/voice messages.

Both our iPhones have iMessage ON, “Send as SMS” OFF etc.

Despite those settings, according to VZW I sent a TXT two days ago. Checking iMessage, in the series of blue iMessages there is a blue one. It didn’t register with me at the time, but I’m quite sure I did not see a send as txt/sms bubble button at the time, I certainly know better than to hit that as we’re charged for every single one sent & received (which ends up being 50c/msg (25c x2)).

It is far from the end of the world, but certainly unexpected behavior when you have SMS OFF.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the plane was taxiing when I took the phone out of airplane mode, and a data connection was not established yet, when I typed “plane 2 landed”?
Or my spouse’s phone was out of data range?

Who knows.

Looking at Apple’s info it says that iMessages may be sent as txts and carrier charges will apply, without giving further details.

iOS 7: Delete photos from Camera Roll without removing from Photo Stream

It does seem to be a bug in iOS 7.0.3, but it’s more of a refresh issue. If you reboot your iPhone or in some cases even just force-close and restart the Photos app, the Photo Stream photos will usually reappear.

Similarly strange things happen when you delete photos from your Mac or PC, such as after importing them into iPhoto or Aperture.

Separating family iTunes and iCloud accounts

Thanks so much for this explanation. It was spot on.

One question lingers, though for people who want to do this: What if the parent deletes some of the shared library on their own PC?

Parents who want to separate their kids’ accounts from their own usually want to get rid of their kids’ media from their library as well. Once the “Shared” library has been transferred to the child’s PC and the child’s PC is authorized for the parent’s library, what happens if the parent deletes the child’s media? Does it affect the child’s itunes library? How about if both parent and child backup to their respective iClouds? They’re both backing up their copy of the “shared” library.

iOS 7: Phone, FaceTime, Messages + Contacts

It seems that after the update, it won’t delete my contacts when I ask it. to. Some contacts never show up with the Delete button at the bottom after hitting “Edit”. Other contacts have the Delete button, and it seems to work when hitting it. However, once I return to my contacts, the contact I tried to delete invariably is still there.

Calendar entries disappear after enabling iCloud

This iCloud has me confused. I got the account after losing all contact. Now I have three sets of contacts and realize that my calendar does not show “holidays ” anymore. How can I show the old calendar?

Restoring Text Messages from an iCloud Backup

You must first have had a previous backup of the iPhone messages fro this to work as this thread describes:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4682079

The trouble is that I did not have a backup of my iPhone text messages neither on my PC (iTunes), nor within iCloud. :(

Receiving other users' iMessages when sharing an Apple ID

Thank you for sharing..finally someone gives a valid solution. Unlike FT and Imessage, FT audio doesnt have an option to untick associated email addresses and as me and my mum share id’s we each recieve each others phone calls. i am assuming and hoping that using a different ID for FT, FTA, Imsg will solve the issue and stop connecting our calls :)

The Complete Guide to Using the iTunes Store

I can’t log in to my iTunes account on a new ipod 5th gen. We tried setting up an account on the ipod several times and it didn’t work.

Tried setting it up on the computer and that worked. Now we go back to the ipod -still getting a message “your apple id or password is incorrect”. Since it was new, we tried resetting it to factory settings. Still didn’t work. Any ideas?

iOS 7: Delete photos from Camera Roll without removing from Photo Stream

I have iOS 7.0.3 and this does not work for me. If I delete a photo from “Camera Roll”, it will be removed from the unified “Photos” also even though it is still in “My Photo Stream.” Is this a bug with the new version?

Editorial: It's Time To Fix Lightning Dock + Case Compatibility

I have four 4th generation iPods just so I can continue to use my television’s iPod dock and my B&W Zeppelin, both of which use the now defunct 30-pin connection.

I’m delaying the inevitable, I know, but until then I’ll just keep hunkering down.

iOS 7: Activation Lock + Find My iPhone

Two days ago my phone stolen. I logged into the cloud and set up lost mode. I rcvd’ my first emails of your phone played a sound, your phone has been found, etc, but have not seen any change since. It still shows up in the find my phone cloud under devices, just as “offline”. I am guessing it has been erased and hoping the culprit is having this same problem and all the bells and whistles are going off for them.

Instant Expert: Secrets & Features of Apple TV 6.0

Regarding subtitles iLounge said “...or stored as separate data in typical iTunes Store video fashion.” Can you explain this further? I thought all subtitles had to be embedded in the MP4 file, and didn’t know that Apple provided a way to play movies with subtitles in a separate file. If so, what format? Where are they stored? Can iTunes/AppleTV handle separate subtitle files for non-iTunes Store movies?

iOS 7: Delete photos from Camera Roll without removing from Photo Stream

I just upgraded to IOS 7 and was looking forward to being able to delete duplicate photos to free up space. But this does not work. When I go into Camera Roll, click on a photo, then hit delete, it tells me it will also be deleted from an album. Do you have any idea why this doesn’t work on my iphone?

iPhone prompting for old Apple ID

I use facebook for years now on a laptop and on an ipad 2. Two months ago we changed emails, so notified facebook and all worked well. Then about five weeks ago upgraded Ipad from Ipad2 to Ipad4 and all worked well. Last week I was unable to use apps like Lexulous and have discovered it has retained an old email address, but have no idea how to delete it.
Any ideas please? Thanks
