iOS 7: Playing tracks by Genre

The solution worked perfectly for me, thank you!  @MsDeonap, give it another try and make sure you scroll down further on your screen. Songs and albums come up first and then Genres bearing the search term show up on the bottom. Once you click on the Genre, swipe down so that the very top of the screen expands and you will see the shuffle icon to shuffle all songs in the Genre.

I was given a set of speaker that have a lightning dock port where I can connect my iphone, however I would really like to be able to connect via bluetooth. Ive seen bluetooth adapters for the 30 pin dock, but have not found one for the lightning dock port. Does one exist?
Thanks

Resetting a forgotten passcode

I can’t restore my tablets this way.  A preference setting was made for “find my iPad”.  I can’t do a restore until I turn that off, but I can’t get to it because I can’t unlock it.  Now what?

Instant Expert: Secrets & Features of iOS 7.0

@Tmtm to clear the cache is also by double-tap home button. Only unlike the 6, with 7 you just slide up the apps one by one.

Restoring iCloud Contact info from backup

The article says, “The easiest and most reliable way to do this is from your Mac or PC, assuming that you have a backup of your contacts there. Unlike on an iPhone, information restored to your computer should be pushed back up to the iCloud servers and then down to your iPhone from there.”

I have a contacts backup on my Mac. But when I Import it, the contacts appear briefly and then are discarded when the sync to iCloud happens. As you say, this is probably because the backed up database is “old” and the empty iCloud database is “new”.

How can I convince iCloud that I want to push to them instead of pull from them?

Transferring Contacts to a new iPhone

I recently moved from a 4s to a 5s iPhone and plan on giving it to my daughter for Xmas
I started to erased my pics from my old phone and was going to do the same with my contacts list but realized that the pics that were synced are being erased from my new phone
I saved the pics in the computer and wanted to do the same with my contact list cause I never saved them before but I can’t do it. I m afraid that if I wipe off the old phone my contact list will disappear from my new phone.
Y tried to sync the old one to the computer but I can’t do it
Help someone please!

Non-Bluetooth Lightning dock speakers

Almost all bluetooth speakers also have an aux in so that you can use them with the bluetooth off and run the sound through your iPod’s headphone jack. Not as elegant as a dock and no charging, but still a viable option where bluetooth is not permitted.

Accessing FaceTime call history on a Mac

We delete our iPhone call history from ‘recents’, but can still view the iPhone call history on our wireless phone bill. Is there a way to retrieve and view Facetime call history (after its deleted on the phone)?

Switching an iTunes Store account to a different country

I’ve a problem. I’d really appreciate some help:
I’ve two different accounts: my first one is from Mexico and my second one is from USA. I didn’t have problems until I bought a MacBook, and I had to wait 90 days to switch from one account to the other.
And now, because I don’t want to change my mexican account (because most of my purchases are from iTunes Mexico), I tried to switch my american one to Germany. The problem? I’ve a minimum credit ($0.44) and I cannot switch.
So, this is the point: what happens if I create a third account (in Germany) and use it in my MacBook? Will I have to wait again 90 days? Will I be able to switch accounts freely? Will my MacBook explode?

Hiding Purchased iBooks

When I read some reviews about iBooks and how Apple basically has ownership and control of any and all content published through it I said Hell No to that, and decided to get rid of it. In keeping with Apple total control of its (not your) system, it won’t let me do that, so I just have to live with books I don’t want hanging around indefinitely. This is wrong, and leads me to distrust everything else Apple since that philosophy is probably ubiquitously integrated into everything they have. So I got rid of my iCloud account and considering what else I might have to get rid of.

iOS 7: Phone, FaceTime, Messages + Contacts

Please does someone know how to block making changes to “Contacts”. I used to be able to lock them down on ipad 4, but now that I got the iPad Air, I can’t lock them.

The reason I need to do this is because I need to give the iPad Air to a kid. And on iPad 4, she was only able to contact family members through iMessage. The ability to add, edit or remove a contact was disabled.

But now the “Don’t Allow Changes” for the “Accounts” option in Gneral > Restrictions > doesn’t work anymore. Weird thing is, it doesn’t even work for my iPhone 4S either. I rang Apple and the lady used her iPhone 5 and it doesn’t work there either.

However, the description for this option in the settings there clearly says:

“Disallowing changes prevents adding, removing, or modifying accounts in Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

So why is this option suddenly not working across all devices to block changes to Contacts?

I was not using any third party app on iPad 4 and neither am I using one now.

Restoring iCloud Contact info from backup

Interesting. I have exactly this problem, but restoring my contacts backup to my mac does the exact same thing the OP describes: the contacts briefly appear and then are discarded + replaced with the smaller set in icloud.

Using iMessage without iCloud

I recently bought my son an Ipod 4th gen. Im trying to set up imessage. here is the problem. I set up his apple ID with his icloud email address I got him (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address))I created a contact card of himself with his icloud email as his home. He can send imessages to everyone no problem, when anyone replies, the reply is a MMS (text)and not an Imessage. Worst of all the reply as a text goes to his .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) email inbox as an email because an Ipod cant receive text. Very frustrating. Does anyone have any idea??

New in iOS 7 For iPad, iPhone + iPod touch: Details + Screens

I have two questions:

1) Can you explain what the “linked contact” section under a contact information is/does?

2) Why when a previous contact updates there phone and then text me they show up as an iMessage under an email address they have?

thanks

iPhone 5/5s docks and case compatibility

It’s a bit expensive but the iPhone 5 dock from Elevation Labs (http://www.elevationlab.com)works with cases.  It uses a passthrough method with one of your own lightning cables, clamped in place by a couple of hex screws but this allows for various heights to accomodate thicker cases. The dock is substantial, being machined aluminium with a rubberised base plate, and does not slide around when you operate the phone. Around $100 depending on the finish you select but a quality product.
