OS X Lion: Serious Wi-Fi Disconnect Problems for Macs, And Solutions?

Switching to WPA security from WEP solved this for me, atleast for last couple of hours.
(I reset my router as well and made the channel static to 11). I am not sure which one of these was more reliable but I think WEP is the main culprit.

Early Thoughts on Logitech's Very Cool New Squeezebox Radio (Updated)

I have a Squeezebox Radio here in Nova Scotia which works great.  I am going to Tokyo next week for a month and thought I’d take it with me.  Does anyone know if it will work there?

Open up terminal.

Type:  ping facebook.

This works because keeps trying to find the best router and subsequently drops the signal finding new ones. Having terminal constantly ping a website prevents this.

A Note On Smart Covers, Smart Cases + Third-Generation iPads

Thanks #1, I shall give it a try.

A Note On Smart Covers, Smart Cases + Third-Generation iPads

#2 - I would contact SwitchEasy.  Maybe they fixed it and making a new run and you can simply exchange yours.  If not, then a refund would be in order.  Out of curiosity, I went and checked SwitchEasy customer support page on their site, where they have their own little message forum.  Seems several people are having the same issue.  I cannot really fault SwitchEasy as they probably had no idea of this little “enhancement” that Apple made to the “smart cover” sensor.  They are (or were) probably just putting the magnets in randomly, thus it is a total crapshoot if you get a case that actually works (the polarity of the magnets in the cover just happen by chance to line up to be “correct” for the new sensor to register).  I think I may have gotten lucky with the grey one that I just received last night, as it appears to be working perfectly.  I really like the SwitchEasy Canvas.  This is actually my second one, as I have one for my iPad 2 as well, so I hope they are on top of getting this fixed soon.  I bought my first one (for iPad 2) purely on recommendation from iLounge, as it was exactly the type and style of case I was looking for.

A Note On Smart Covers, Smart Cases + Third-Generation iPads

I just bought the red switcheasy canvas for iPad and I have realized the similar issue before I read your article. That is when I close the cover, I don’t always hear the “click” sound (when the iPad is not muted), or sometimes I can hear the “click” sound twice, 1st time when I close the cover and 2nd time when I gently squeeze the front back with my fingers like when I pick it up with one hand. I am a bit concern as constantly switching on & off the iPad will not do it good, should I contact switcheasy and ask for a refund?

That case you tested in black and brown that worked, but the grey and red that did not work, happen to be the SwitchEasy Canvas, by chance (since it comes in those four color options)?

BTW, I ordered and just received today, a SwitchEasy Canvas for the new iPad, in grey (or “charcoal” as they call it), and it worked perfectly.  I actually wanted a black one, but they were back ordered.

A Note On Third-Generation iPad Case Compatibility

My Speck hard shell rear case fit like a glove, i was amazed because it seemed snug on my 1st gen. Very happy with the product, how often do you get 2 product generations that aren’t the same size out of one case?

A Note On Third-Generation iPad Case Compatibility

I have a Cygnett leather folio type case. The iPad 3 fits. But oddly the magnets no longer work. Closing and opening the lid does not activate the iPad.

The original magnet top from Apple works fine.

OS X Lion: Serious Wi-Fi Disconnect Problems for Macs, And Solutions?

Out of Curiosity, how many of you having this issue are in a multi AP environment. Just asking as since 10.6 on I am no longer able to specify a BSSID or bind it to a SSID and I have been having similar issues anytime I am in a multi AP area to include WDS extended networks.

Mac OS Leopard can't format a USB hard disk? Seriously?

Go Karl!! A huge thanks. Spent 24 hrs literally trying to zero out the external drive, which failed. Karls method worked in less than a minute. You can’t know how grateful I am!!

OS X Lion: Serious Wi-Fi Disconnect Problems for Macs, And Solutions?

I had a new mac mini i5 and after about a week began experiencing the wifi and connection timeout issues we’re all far too familiar with! Solution? I’ ve consulted with apple geniuses, spent 10s of hours on forums and online resources desperately trying to find a solution, I’ve also tried all of those sites that claim to be a wonder fix and I can conclude right now that none of it seems fruitful! I was advised by apple to wait for future updates to see if they may rectify the problem! So hence my mac went back for refund!
Apple this is pathetic! A computer with practically non existent wifi is like a car with no wheels! And to think that you both design and build, thereabouts, your software and hardware and you still can’t, given that, get your products to work synergistically! This is simple stuff that other manufacturers and OS’s perform relatively reliably. Calm down the development of the bells and whistles and start with a coherent and FUNCTIONAL foundation! ‘MOST ADVANCED OS IN THE WORLD’ you may want to reconsider your tag line too . . . .
I’m not an apple troll before the accusations come flying; in the event that these issues are completely rectified I will happily purchase a new mac mini, I just wish apple would take responsibility and present to us those premium products that their advertising and prices imply! They’ve certainly got the service right, apple staff are a great bunch of people!

OS X Lion: Serious Wi-Fi Disconnect Problems for Macs, And Solutions?

I’ve been having the “no hardware installed” issue with my wifi since snow leopard, and though that going to lion would solve my problems. What happens is, sometimes my mbp crashes and the internet stops working, so I try to reboot it a few times and just leave it for a few hours, or sometimes days. It comes back working by itself, so I never take it to the store. The only problem is when I am in a middle of something important, as a conference meeting yesterday. Could not get back. My boss is very pissed. Any solutions for reinstalling the wifi hardware, please contatc.thank you

Squeezebox Boom: A Sleek, Strong-Sounding Internet Radio, with Several Speedbumps

Hi,
I use a Logitech internet radio sqeezbox for about one year and even though the sound is excellent I’d like to add an accessory to improve it to a more analog standard. My budget is around $150. Can you recommend anything at this price range?

Thank you,
T.P.

On Apple's New iPad Case + Next Glass-Bodied iPhone Prototype

The iPad case will be welcome. I have gone through 3 different cases so far for my iPad 2. I had the Smart Cover followed by a leather case with a Bluetooth keyboard until I finally settled for a 3rd party cover that had worked liked the Smart Cover, but with protection at the back as well.

An Apple designed full case will be welcome.

Early Comparative Insights on iPad Screen Protectors

I’m an IT Manager and I’ve put the Power support anti-glare films on Every iPhone & iPad in our Company they are incredible. we put them on as soon as the unit comes out of the Box Prior to Powering them up for the first time. I’ve tried the Others and threw them away either Immediatly or within a week once they started peeling.. the Power support is easy to install and will outlast Your phone or iPad..

I have this too, on two computers both with lion. My wife still uses snow leopard. No problem at all. This started immediately after installing lion but does not affect other devices, just lion. What a rip off.

iPod touch 4G's Battery Is Bigger, But Is It Better?

For better battery life use the Airplane mode, which deactivates the WiFi.

Mac OS Leopard can't format a USB hard disk? Seriously?

I had the same problem with a 500 GB Lacie USB Hard Disk formated in FAT32, and MacOS x 10.6.8
Trashbin wouldn’t empty: “empty trash” would get into a loop I stopped when it had reached 70000+ files to delete. The trick I found to reformat the disk was to run timemachine on this disk, then it said it had to first reformat the USB disk. Once the disk was reformatted I quit timemachine, and the disk is now clean and empty.

Had similar disconnect problems which Apple Support couldn’t solve. Finally I solved by going to System Preferences and opened Energy Saver and moved the sleep cursor for pc from 15 minutesto 1 hour. No problems since

OS X Lion: Serious Wi-Fi Disconnect Problems for Macs, And Solutions?

Most recent suggestion did not work:-( But thanks.

Candidly, between this issue and the nuking of the Office apps support, I can’t think of anything nice to say about Apple. I can think about a whole lot of expletives, though. A return to the arrogance of the First Jobs Regime?
