The Cube Project, Part 1

Yes it does work for word processing if you aren’t bothered by it overheating.
I use one in my room and disconnected it from the
Internet so I could use it solely for word processing and
Tony hawk pro skater 4. (need to upgrade graphics card).

How to Fix Dictionary Problems in iBooks 1.1

The dictionary languages are predefined. Apple may add Spanish, but you cannot.

But, if you set your language to English, your definitions may still work, because they have search Wikipedia and google buttons at the bottom. smile

Mac FaceTime 1.0 Adds 720p FaceTime HD - But Only For Brand New Macs?

“I would rather have them include that dollar in the price of my Mac rather then paying a dollar separately.”

Do you mean include that dollar in the price of a computer that did not have this software to begin with or in the price of a new computer? For a computer that did not have this software when the computer was sols, how the heck are Apple going to add prices for unknown software that is yet to be released into the computer price?
For a new computer, it is included. The price would be $1198 instead of $1199 if they removed the software. grin

Repair Needed: iPhone Cannot Make or Receive Calls [updated]

My iphone 4 will not turn on without it plugged into the wall (computer boots it up to the apple logo, then turns back off; repeatedly) and when it is plugged into the wall it brings up “iphone cannot make or recieve calls, restore using iTunes”... well the computer wont turn it on and it looses power once unplugged.. I cant figure out anything about this… guess im going to haave to take it to plano - nearest apple store - and get it replaced?
This is crap though, i was using it all day and then around 5 it just died for no reason and i got home and this is what ive found out so far.. ive had it over a year and no problems till now.

On iPod touch 4G's Low-Resolution Rear Camera + Rear Mic

The camera is disappointingly bad for stills (I thought it was an iPhone without phone capabilities) but better than nothing if you see a great sight or a UFO.
Also it seems to be more like a small tablet computer rather than a purpose-designed mp3 player, I thought an iPod would put audio playing first not just as one use among many for the device. But, an mp3 player with internet and internal speaker (and basic camera) is a pretty good tradeoff.

Fun With iPhone Contacts & Address Book

Sorry, I know this is an old topic, but I am desperately searching for a tool that allows me to manage my iPhone contacts from my PC! I keep on searching but didn’t find anything that’s similar to the Mac address book. Btw I don’t have Outlook and I don’t want to use the iCloud - at least not for my address book. Any tips?

How the new iPod touch does FaceTime

Can the iPod Touch be used with Neat (as the iPhone 4 can be used) to create and send an image of a receipt to the Neat Cloud or preferably to create, store and transfer the receipt image directly via USB cable to the Neat program on a desktop computer?

Update on Apple's Magic Trackpad: Battery Life + As A Mouse Replacement

I have had the trackpad for a little over a year now and the battery life is exceptional compared to most bluetooth mice. I have model number A1339 (not sure if this matters). I’m a programmer and use my trackpad 8-9 hours a day and I can go around 2-3 months without ever changing the batteries. I use Energizer MAX non-rechargeable batteries. It’s paired with a 2011 Mac Book Air 11”. I think its probably a hardware issue or a an issue in OSX. It’s not communicating to the device to shut it down. Also, i’m on OSX Lion.

New Details On Apple's Next iPhone, iPods, iPad mini, iPad (4th-Gen) + Cases

I have 2 iPod touch devices and they’re great! I do so much with them. But I was hoping for something a little bigger like an iPad mini rather than buy another touch. I want a bigger screen for gaming and my photography apps. I just bought a Nexus 7 (16GB) and I love it! I’d like to see an iPad mini with 64GB but I won’t hold my breath.

@8: “... while presumably the next iPod Touch will have one, since the current one already has one as well.”

Really? You think Apple will downgrade on such a meaningful area? Specially when the hype is to go all Retina Display on every device?????

OS X Lion: Serious Wi-Fi Disconnect Problems for Macs, And Solutions?

I had same problems with my Mac, late model 2009, running 10.7.4

I tried most of the fixes described, and some worked for a short time. What seems to have eventually fixed it (been 3 days now OK), was a link I found, cant find it now, but seemed a good one, because it described the problem in OSX.

The fix is to make sure you have software updates. Then add a new location in your network, setup, this causes it to bring in new code from Lion (i had upgraded to Lion in past), connect to wifi, renew DHCP lease (under advanced/TCP) reboot router and everything is cool.

Hope it works for you guys still struggling out there, for a minute I thought I was going back to WIndows…..

Eight-Pin Dock Connector + iOS 6 / Bluetooth 4 Link Details? (Updated)

Bluetooth can do so much more. You can transfer files, hook up keyboards and mice, or use it for internet access. Contact transfer, chat, etc. The list is huge.

The only reason for Apple to switch to bluetooth 4 is for power saving, but they will never open up the profiles to let people use bluetooth for anything more than a headset.

On iPod touch 4G's Low-Resolution Rear Camera + Rear Mic

My ipod 4th generation takes great outdoor pictures, but really bad indoor pics. My only complaint about this product. We can only wish for a better camera with future ipod generations.

New Details On Apple's Next iPhone, iPods, iPad mini, iPad (4th-Gen) + Cases

iPad Mini may not have a Retina Display while presumably the next iPod Touch will have one, since the current one already has one as well.

It’s not going to have the same SOC as the iPhone, because Apple will want to maximize the supply of iPhone, meaning all the premium components will be used to make iPhones, not any iPod Touches.

They need to update the Nano since it’s been 2 years.  Really not have it ready for Xmas?

OS X Lion: Serious Wi-Fi Disconnect Problems for Macs, And Solutions?

I tried _EVERYTHING_
even taking my imac 3 times to the Apple Store (not easy, it’s heavy!)
And of course those dorks couldn’t see _anything_ wrong because their WIFI inside the apple store has no security and the problem with the wifi disconnect is when there is security enabled (in my experience).

I just updated to Mountain Lion and the problem is gone! So it was definitely a bug in Lion.

New Details On Apple's Next iPhone, iPods, iPad mini, iPad (4th-Gen) + Cases

Can’t imagine a new 10” iPad this year honestly, even if that IGZO stuff works as promised and allows them to slim the iPad back to normal size again.  Doubt we’ll see this before next spring.

A 7-8” iPad Mini though I would *love* to see this Christmas and certainly would be a great gift.  A $500 iPad is just too expensive for that, while a $199-$299 iPad Mini (hopefully no more than $249) would be a great “over the top” gift in a lot of cases.  I’d certainly be getting one for my daughter, if not my father as well.

Apple really should do something with the Nano wrt making it into a a watch that is an iPhone companion—bluetooth connected, alerts on screen, etc.  Doesn’t sound like anything is coming there but I’ll keep my hopes up.

New Details On Apple's Next iPhone, iPods, iPad mini, iPad (4th-Gen) + Cases

@5: You cannot cannibalize your own sales, you realize that? right? This is why there are so many General Mills kids cereals on the shelves, regardless of what overly refined sugary cereal you wind up buying for junior, GM wins, same for Apple - whether you walk out of the store with a nearly $1000 64GB third gen iPad or a 6G nano, Apple profits. Yes, Apple has indeed seemingly behaved quite stupidly in the past with the touch from just that sort of Jobs induced paranoia, and that is why they are *losing* millions of potential customers to Amazon and others. When you compete with yourself, you always win, but when you choose to not compete with yourself while *dozens* of other corporations are competing with you, you nearly always lose. And Apple is losing in the big picture. iOS is way behind Android at this point, with the picture being even grimmer for iOS outside of the U.S., Apple cannot afford, literally, to leave the ‘affordable’ mini tablet niche alone in hopes of finding those few people looking for something “affordable” and dropping more than a quality desktop computer costs for a “toy”.

Just last week a good friend of mine, not overly tech savvy, went and took the $200 plunge for a Kindle Fire, her first toy of this ilk. Now, Apple will never see a dime of her money ever because there was no Apple product in that consumer niche.

iPad mini won;t be coming till next year. There is no way Apple would let their product cannibalize the sales of its predecessor which in itself was a great device.

I will like a 4” iPhone if it is a little bit longer. NOT wider, please. Wide is not single-hand thumb-friendly.

New Details On Apple's Next iPhone, iPods, iPad mini, iPad (4th-Gen) + Cases

@2: “How many 5G Touch buyers will prefer that size over an iPad mini?  Some may want a device they can slip in their pocket as opposed to a mini tablet form factor, but this is where the market sensitivity to size will unfold by this time next year when sales of both devices are well underway.”

At this point it’s all about specs and apps. For those, like me, who treat their iOS devices more like this era’s DS/PSP + media player, the iPad mini is, in theory, the better option. If all I wanted to do was keep on playing music in my car and while I wash the dishes I would have no reason to upgrade. I’m even prepared to just grab a nano if they put out a *proper* iPad mini for mowing the lawn.

However, the interesting part is what exactly Apple is going to do with that theoretically preferable mini, because the obvious reason to put out such a device is to compete with the Kindle Fire and other Android mini tablets, and those things are already cheaper than the cheapest iPod touch. It’s entirely possible in spite of the rumors that the iPad mini might become the redheaded stepchild in the iOS line up while the 5G touch goes onto become their “PSP killer”.

All of which is why I hope they don’t do something as annoying as stagger the releases. I was way past wanting to upgrade my touch last year when it was already dated.
