Recently acquired by French networked phone maker Invoxia, Swissvoice used CES to unveil Voice Bridge ($80), a small box that lets your iPhone make and receive landline phone calls. It also showed the “next-generation ePure,” its latest version of the dual-purpose wireless phone and speaker system.

Now equipped with a built-in color screen, the new version of ePure is currently unpriced, but is dependent on a cable telephone provider to provide HD Voice telephone calling services -- for this reason, it will be sold by cable providers rather than traditional retailers. The prior version worked as a modern telephone handset for your iPhone, as well as a Bluetooth speaker for your iPhone; this version does the latter.

Voice Bridge connects to your iPhone via Wi-Fi and your home router via a cord, using an iOS app to let you make and receive landline telephone calls. Prior implementations of the same idea used Bluetooth (and sold for less), avoiding the need for your router to be involved. Swissvoice describes its app as being "like VoIP."
