Other World Computing’s major debut at the 2011 CES was a series of high-performance solid state drives for Macintosh computers, most notably 120, 240, and 360GB drives for the MacBook Air. The company demonstrated its drives in direct comparisons against the ones found in the original Air, showing how replacing the drive alone could make the old 1.86GHz model dramatically faster (seemingly twice as fast) at booting up and opening applications than the prior-generation 2.13GHz Air; the prices of the drives go all the way up to nearly $1,200 for the 360GB SSD, which even works in the 11” 2010 Air—a machine that’s normally restricted to 128GB of capacity by Apple.
