I created these over a week ago, posted them on my blog, mytriniphone.com. This version is the black Slider
I know what you are thinking, and I felt the same way too, until I started thinking about it.
What if the iPhone had a second screen that slid out and had a QWERTY that you can use to compose email, write memo’s/notes, use with Safari to blog etc. Imagine the visible screen real estate this would introduce? All that space used with the keyboard in landscape would now be visible.
The button/key locations would be fixed to allow them to be slightly raised, so that the user can feel the difference between keys and they would give haptic feedback, but the built in LCD will allow the charecters to be changed on the fly depending on the app and the characters needed.
When the phone is closed (normal) you can use the usual touch keyboard/touchpad/dialpad etc, but at anytime, you can flip into landscape and either use the landscape on screen keyboard, or slide out the qwerty and type ultra fast.
The Keyboard could reconfigure to the App that you are using. For example, imagine using iChat, you can get the normal keyboard, or one with smilies or special characters.
Imagine the gaming possibilities!!
