For easier and more comfortable handling the design includes rubber grips. The three button design is meant to improve comfort when reading eBooks or playing games.

The iPad OS is based on the iPhone's, novelties include:

- The home bar is divided into categories, to allow for easier access with the increased number of applications.
Media: TV, Music, Photos, Movies, Podcast, eBooks, etc.
Organizer: Calendar, Notes, Tasks, Contacts, etc.
Internet: Browser, Social Networks, Remote, etc.
Communication: Phone, Email, SMS, MMS, Video-conference, VoIP, etc.
Applications: Navigation, Voice-recording, Video-recording, Games, various applications from the App-Store, etc.
Device: MyFiles, SketchPad, Network, System Settings, System Info, etc.

- Multitasking is possible, the red numbers in the home bar indicate running apps.
- An extended iTunes-Remote App will make the iPad the ultimate home remote.

As the iPhone the iPad only has an audio out and the dock connector to allow the extremly slim design. The iPad-dock will contain a display port, audio out, audio in, 2 USB ports and a power connector.
