Beckmann of Norway Urban 30L Backpack

Beckmann of Norway has been making bags overseas for decades, and the company has recently brought their products here to the U.S. We’ve received Beckmann’s Urban 30L backpack ($120), a bag that contains three large pockets, two of which can easily house a MacBook and 12.9” iPad Pro. The lightweight pack features a number of leather details, including the zipper pulls. A rain cover in the pocket can be pulled over the rest of the bag. Urban 30L also comes in burgundy, gray, and navy.

Cocoon Urban Adventure 16" Messenger Bag

Booq Daypack

Booq’s made many of our favorite bags over the years — durable, attractive bags with a lot of storage space — but the company’s packs haven’t always fit into the price range of many customers. Booq’s new Daypack ($80) is the company’s most affordable backpack yet. Daypack has a surprising amount of space, and will fit any MacBook size. The cotton canvas exterior is water-repellent, and polyester lines the inside. We received the white “cream-dream” color option, but there are also gray, navy, and tan “clay” versions of Daypack, all with their own unique inner lining colors.

Hex Radar Convertible Backpack and Laptop Briefcase

Hex’s new Radar collection features a water-resistant rip-stop exterior fabric, and we’ve received both the Radar Convertible Backpack ($100) and Radar Laptop Briefcase ($110). While we’ve seen these form factors from Hex before — the Convertible Backpack and Laptop Briefcase — the navy Radar look is both handsome and rugged. Both products feature black coated canvas trim and genuine zipper pulls. Both items also allow for different carrying orientations: the backpack’s straps can be hidden under a back panel, for the bag to be carried by its top handles, and the briefcase can convert into a small backpack with its hidden-away straps.

VRS Design Ark Backpack

We’ve seen plenty of cases from VRS Design — previously known as Verus — but Ark Backpack ($100) is the first bag we’ve seen from the company. Though Ark seems to be VRS Design’s first foray into bags, you wouldn’t know it by taking a glance at the backpack. Ark is a soft, water-resistant pack that can hold up to a 15” MacBook. It’s got plenty of pockets, an air mesh padded back panel for comfort, a luggage transport sleeve, and there’s even a reflective strip near the bottom of the bag to aid walkers. The pack comes in gray (as seen here), black, or a black camo pattern.

Booq Saddle Pro

Saddle Pro ($295) is a new expandable laptop brief from one of our favorite bag companies, Booq. The company says Saddle Pro was “designed in collaboration” with some of Booq’s “most demanding customers.” It’s recommended for 13”-15” MacBooks, and our 13” MacBook Air fit comfortably. Saddle Pro’s exterior is mostly ballistic nylon with a water-repellent coating, though the zipper pullers and handles are coated with genuine leather. An optional shoulder strap and a small travel bag are included with Saddle Pro. The bag weighs 3.8 pounds on its own. Like all Booq bags, Saddle Pro comes with the company’s Terralinq service to aid in the return of lost-and-found bags.

Buqu Car Chargers, Power Bank + Wall Charger

Buqu has introduced a number of chargers and batteries that cater to a younger crowd with their bold designs. Where most accessory companies are content to put their batteries and chargers in inconspicuous boxy enclosures, Buqu’s got car chargers that look like rocket ships and power banks that look like grenades. All of the items we received boast 2.4A fast charging. Clearly, the designs establish that these products aren’t for everyone, but it’s nice to see a company bring something different to the staid world of battery charging.

STM Haven 15" Laptop Backpack

STM — long one of our favorite bag companies — has recently introduced its new Velocity collection, which includes a number of new bags. One of these new bags is Haven, a backpack that can fit up to a 15” MacBook. Haven’s main compartment has a suspended sling at the bottom with extra corner padding, ensuring your computer won’t bump the floor when you set your bag down. The bag also contains STM’s own cableready routing system, which allows users to add portable power and charge devices while they’re in the backpack. Haven is made from water-resistant fabric which should stand up to the elements. The pack comes in blue, black, a light “frost gray,” or a darker “steel” gray.

Mos MOS Pack

The MOS Pack from Mos is an intriguing backpack for two main reasons — pockets and power. MOS Pack comes with, as the company claims, “a plethora of pockets.” The slim nylon pack has a main pocket for your MacBook or iPad Pro, and a tablet pocket for your iPad Air or mini. A separate utility pocket can carry your iPhone, passport, pens, and a water bottle. There are also a number of other pockets to store items such as glasses, earbuds, extra cables, or any other small pieces of gear you might want to tote around. MOS Pack comes with Reach, a 3-foot power cord with two USB outputs (with a total charging speed of 3.1A) and a standard outlet for charging a MacBook or other items. The backpack comes in black or gray.

Hex Brigade Messenger Bag and DSLR Camera Gear Bag

Hex has recently introduced a number of new bags, including its Brigade Messenger Bag ($90) and DSLR Camera Gear Bag ($175). Brigade Messenger Bag is an affordable bag with a woven cotton exterior that’s been treated for water resistance. A front flap and two clasps keep the bag shut, ensuring the many included compartments are kept safe, dry, and secure. While Brigade Messenger Bag could be a travel option for a variety of travelers and commuters, DSLR Camera Gear Bag is obviously much more specific. The big, water-resistant waxed canvas backpack has a large storage area to keep a DSLR camera and all related gear safe and in order. The bag comes with additional dividers for more gear, and even includes a separate rear storage pocket for a MacBook Pro (up to 15”).

STM Grace Deluxe Sleeve

STM’s Grace Deluxe Sleeve ($60) is a new laptop bag aimed at women — this is worth noting, as half the population is still mostly ignored when it comes to tech/gear bags. Grace Deluxe Sleeve comes in 13” or 15” versions, in four different color combinations. We received the blue and black Night Sky version — other color combos look to stand out a bit more. STM’s lightweight polyester bag is designed only to carry a laptop and “a few daily essentials,” as it has one soft lined pocket with a magnetized flap for a laptop, and a separate zippered pocket for other items.

Knomo Kinsale Soft Leather Messenger Bag

Knomo’s new Kinsale Soft Leather Messenger Bag ($250) can hold up to a 13” MacBook. The front and sides of the messenger bag are covered in smooth leather that lives up to its “soft” name. The leather front flap and the back pocket both shut with strong magnetic closures — the pocket can barely fit an uncased iPad Air. But it’s not like you’ll necessarily need that pocket to store a full-sized iPad, as the bag offers plenty of room for an iPad and iPhone of any size, along with cables, pens, and other gear. Kinsale Soft Leather Messenger Bag comes in black and brown.
