Mujjo Touchscreen Gloves

With winter upon those of us in northern parts, it’s that time of the year when we’re again faced with the awkward dilemma of keeping our hands warm while still being able to use our iPhones and Apple Watches. While gloves that are capable of operating capacitive touch screens aren’t an entirely new idea, they’re still not something you typically find in retail stores, and with the number of options available we know from experience that it can be tricky to find a pair that provide a good balance of style, comfort, and warmth. Mujjo’s Touchscreen Gloves seem to hit most of the right notes here — they’re well made, stylish, comfortable, available in several options depending on your needs, and work flawlessly with all of the touchscreens we tried. Plus, if you’re an iPhone X user, this is definitely the year when touchscreen gloves come into their own since Face ID eliminates the need to worry about dealing with the Touch ID sensor through a gloved finger.

Griffin Pencil Sleeve for Apple Pencil

Griffin’s Pencil Sleeve ($30) is a silicone sleeve for Apple Pencil. The non-slip sleeve fits snuggly around the Apple Pencil, and its triangular design prevents Pencil from rolling around. Pencil Sleeve also comes with a built-in cap, which essentially acts as a replacement for the easy-to-lose Pencil cap. Also, the sleeve’s cap has its own multi-touch compatible stylus tip on the end, adding extra functionality to Pencil. The sleeve comes in gray or clear versions.

Zivix AirJamz

Zivix, known mostly for its Jamstik MIDI guitar, recently introduced AirJamz ($50), a Bluetooth “guitar pick.” Using a free app, the pick lets users play air guitar like never before, as their strumming motions in the air are turned into music and sounds within the app. The app comes with 25 free downloadable tracks, and a few extra tracks can be purchased, too. You can switch through available instruments for each song within the app, and your Bluetooth pick will change sounds on the fly. Up to four players can play at once, and AirJamz gets 18 hours battery life from a replaceable CR2032 battery.

Crosley Cruiser Deluxe

Crosley’s Cruiser Deluxe ($90) is an updated version of the company’s popular retro “suitcase” turntable. This time around, however, the company has added Bluetooth, to give users another way to listen to music. Cruiser Deluxe can indeed be latched and carried like a suitcase. Two small speakers are built into the front of the case. Inside the case is the three-speed turntable, and next to that are a headphone jack, volume knob, pitch control knob, and the Bluetooth on/off switch. On the back of the case are ports for the AC adapter, stereo line-out ports, and another headphone jack. Turntables are generally not within our purview — we certainly wouldn’t feel right giving a full review of this product — but we figured we could at least give prospective consumers some insight regarding Cruiser Deluxe’s Bluetooth capabilities. We don’t currently see Cruiser Deluxe listed on Crosley’s website, but the product is already being sold on other sites.

CaseCrown SlimPower Wallet

CaseCrown’s SlimPower Wallet ($30-$35) is a small, simple wallet, with room for cards and cash. But SlimPower wouldn’t be in our Gear section if it were just a wallet — a 2500mAh battery is tucked inside. The battery features a built-in micro-USB cable and Lightning adapter for charging, and also comes with a separate micro-USB cable for recharging the battery itself. SlimPower Wallet comes in genuine black leather for $35, with brown or navy synthetic leather and gray canvas options selling for $30.

BeON Home BeONhome Key Fob

BeON Home has released a new key fob accessory for controlling its Home Protection System that we looked at late last year — a set of three Bluetooth LED smart bulbs designed for home security and protection that goes a bit beyond simple lighting applications. The BeONhome Key Fob uses Bluetooth Smart technology to allow you to easily set your BeON Home lighting to “Away” and “Home” modes with a single button press, rather than having to reach for your iPhone app, basically letting you enable your security lighting schedule when you leave your home and return to normal when you arrive. A single long press of the “Home” button can also be used to turn on all of your lights at once.

Belkin Case + Stand for Apple Pencil

Apple Pencil is a well-regarded peripheral for iPad Pro, so most criticisms of Pencil end up being questions of where you should keep the thing when it’s not in use. Companies have introduced accessories to this end, and some of our favorite iPad Pro cases also offer a holding place for a Pencil. In the same vein, Belkin has introduced Case + Stand for Apple Pencil, which is meant to be an all-in-one solution for Pencil users. Case + Stand does exactly what it claims to do — it’s a storage case for Apple Pencil which doubles as a vertical stand for the peripheral. The case is made of white plastic and gray matte silicone, the latter of which is also found in the recessed tip holder of the stand.

Danny P. Leather Wallet with iPhone 6 Plus Case

The Leather Wallet with iPhone 6 Plus Case ($129) is an interesting concept from leather accessory company Danny P. While we’ve seen many wallet cases over the years, this product is mainly a wallet that just happens to have space for your iPhone 6/6s Plus. Danny P. also makes a version for the iPhone 6/6s, and an iPhone 5/5s/SE version of the wallet is also still available. The iPhone 6/6s Plus version of the wallet has seven credit card slots and a pocket for cash. Leather Wallet with iPhone 6 Plus Case comes in dark brown, black, and the brown/blue seen here.

Buqu Car Chargers, Power Bank + Wall Charger

Buqu has introduced a number of chargers and batteries that cater to a younger crowd with their bold designs. Where most accessory companies are content to put their batteries and chargers in inconspicuous boxy enclosures, Buqu’s got car chargers that look like rocket ships and power banks that look like grenades. All of the items we received boast 2.4A fast charging. Clearly, the designs establish that these products aren’t for everyone, but it’s nice to see a company bring something different to the staid world of battery charging.

Scosche MagicMount Pro Dash, Pro Vent + Pro Window/Dash

We’ve been big fans of Scosche’s MagicMount systems for iOS devices for a while, and the company has recently released new Pro versions of the mounting system. Three different mounts make up the MagicMount Pro family — Pro Dash ($30), Pro Vent ($30), Pro Window/Dash ($40). Scosche claims the Pro mounts feature magnets which are 30 percent stronger than those featured in the original MagicMount series. There aren’t any major changes in the way the system works, however, so we’d urge you to check out our reviews of the original MagicMount series or MagicMount XL Dash/Window for further insight.

Spigen Style Ring

Spigen’s Style Ring ($25) is an interesting little add-on for your iPhone. Style Ring is a rotating aluminum ring attached to a small plastic piece which attaches to the back of an iPhone. The ring can be worn on one’s finger to prevent dropping the iPhone during use, and Spigen points out that using the ring to hold the phone can allow you to access more of the screen during one-handed use. The ring, which can be moved and turned in all directions, also doubles as a small kickstand. It even comes with a small hook mount for a dashboard. Style Ring can be affixed to the iPhone itself, and it works with some cases, too. The product comes in white, black, or rose gold.

PureGear Smart + Buttons Screen Protector for iPhone 6/6s

PureGear’s Smart + Buttons Screen Protector ($45) isn’t your typical iPhone screen cover. Yes, it’s a thin tempered glass screen protector, but most noteworthy are its unseen shortcut buttons. The screen protector allows iPhone 6/6s users to control buttons at the top of the screen by pressing directly to the left or right of the Home Button, below the actual display. For instance, if you’re in Safari, pressing left of the Home Button will go into Reader mode, while pressing just to the right of the Home Button will refresh the page. It’s an interesting alternative to using Reachability. PureGear also sells a iPhone 6/6s Plus version of Smart + Buttons for the same price.

iSkelter Canvas Creator and Canvas Pro LapDesks for iPad Pro

iSkelter, maker of a number of wooden Apple accessories and other products, has introduced two new LapDesks for Apple’s new iPad Pro. Both the Canvas Creator and Canvas Pro are large wooden trays with cutouts for an iPad Pro and other accessories, designed to be rested on one’s lap during use. Canvas Creator has space for an iPad Pro, an Apple Pencil, and another display slot that could be used to keep the iPad Pro or another device at a fixed viewing angle, in landscape or portrait mode. Canvas Pro loses the Pencil slot in favor of an extended space to rest something in one’s right hand, and also has the display slot, and another slot at the top that can be used to view an iPhone or another device. Both LapDesks are $100, and are both on sale for $68 at the time of this writing.

Braven BRV-PRO Battery Pack

Braven’s BRV-PRO is one of the most versatile Bluetooth speakers we’ve ever seen, and that versatility is further bolstered by the speaker’s own ecosystem of accessories. We recently received the BRV-PRO Battery Pack ($50), a 3800 mAh battery that is added onto the top of BRV-PRO to extend the speaker’s battery life from an already strong 15 hours to an almost unheard of 40 hours of playtime “at normal listening levels.” Just like the speaker itself, BRV-PRO Battery Pack is IPX7-waterproof.
