Mirror’s Edge
By Jeremy Horwitz | 05.09.08

First, watch this:

Then, read this: Parkour.

Then, if you’re still intrigued, watch this:

The controls could be a real issue. And it’s possible that the gameplay, like so many other “total first-person” experiences, ultimately won’t work in the end, despite how impressive it looks right now. But as a real demonstration of what the PS3 and Xbox 360 hardware can do, EA and DICE’s Mirror’s Edge is now one of my most anticipated titles for whenever it ships in 2008.

I have been pretty intrigued by this title and the innovations in the physics that it promises.

That said, it may take a small miracle for anything to root GTA IV out of my consoles.

It’s ugly, to be honest.  It looks like a last-gen PC game, which is a high end last-gen console game.  The physics are cool, and if they can figure out the controls, a parkour game would be unbelievable, but better graphics surely wouldn’t hurt.  In 10 years everyone will be able to see in retrospect that this started a movement, but the first game with the ‘revolutionary’ physics AND great graphics will be the blockbuster.

You might want to see the high-res version of the video. If you still think it’s ugly at that point, we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Okay.  http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33585.html is the high-res version, and it looks a lot better.  I’ll just take back my other post now.  Let’s just hope they incorporate some great controls, and we have ourselves a game.
