The Mac Guessing Game, Part 2
By Jeremy Horwitz | 04.04.08

As promised; Dan Nicholls got it right. Cube aside, it’s the only Mac I’ve wanted to own, but never had. Here are some other Mac-as-commodity pictures from Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan—the trip that cemented my need to pick up both of these machines, soon.

Huzzah!
I honestly think this is amongst the best computer designs ever conceived.
Was very disappointed when it was discontinued. I worked with one all through college editing films, then when I had enough money to buy one, they updated to the iMac ‘Chin’.
I’m pondering if I could make an update of the internals too now Jeremy! How much did the sunflower set you back?
Where do you buy all the parts from?
Both those questions will probably be answered if you do a series of backstage articles like you did with the cube. I hope you do. I look forward to it.

Nice choice! That was my first Mac ever! A last generation 17’’ 1.25 GHz G4 iMac which was, in my view, the most proportionate of its lineup, itself the most ergonomic Apple has ever designed.

I sold it to a friend so I could buy a Rev.A 20’’ iMac G5, by and large the best computer I’ve ever owned, even considering the hardware problems I had with it (lucky as I am, I got a logic board replacement because it started failing on me four days before the three-year warranty extension program expired), but I still miss my “desklamp” iMac. It was much more silent, its speakers were out of this world and, of course, its case design literally turned heads. wink

Fortunately I still have the chance to play with it sometimes when I visit my friend… Sometimes it’s amazing how people get attached to their Apple products!

C’mon--take on a challenge!  How about a Newton 2100?

I miss my Newton. . . .
