Mobile Mechatronics Blur Tripod for iPhone 3G/3GS
By Jeremy Horwitz | 10.02.09

Especially when using the iPhone 3G, soft-edged indoor photos are common, due to a relatively low-performance camera sensor, small lens, and flash-unassisted low light conditions. Mobile Mechatronics' new Blur Tripod ($15) for the iPhone 3G and 3GS aims to improve the devices' photo capabilities with one of the classic camera user's tricks, a three-legged stabilizing mount with a ball joint in the center to let you position your iPhone on your choice of angles. The good news is that the tripod works fine when the iPhone's in vertical orientation, but it becomes less stable when mounted in wide mode, with even the tripod's extending legs lacking enough surface area to completely hold the phone straight. You can remove the iPhone mount -- a piece of plastic with some foam pads inside to hold the iPhone in place -- and attach it to another tripod if you desire. This is a low-priced, lightweight, and relatively compact option; a $1 app is also offered to help improve your photos further.
