myvu Shades 301 iPod Edition
By Jeremy Horwitz | 05.09.08

Based upon the company's earlier Solo Plus for iPod, myvu's new Shades 301 iPod Edition ($200) makes dramatic cosmetic changes to the prior wearable video display in an effort to make them more visually interesting and wearable. Shades 301 is a modular system with numerous cables -- a magnetic two-piece cable manager for its neck cabling, two connected Ultimate Ears earbuds for sound isolation in your left and right ears, a detachable Dock Connector cable, and a remote control unit for toggling volume, brightness, and power. When the pieces are all connected together, you can watch 320x240 video output from 2007 and earlier iPods, as well as hearing accompanying audio; an integrated battery keeps the display running for hours. As with myvu Solo Plus, the Dock Connector can be pulled off and replaced with optional parts sold by mvyu to work with non-iPod devices. Shades 301 is so named for its sunglass-style visor, enabling you to look up from the built-in screens and see your surroundings when outdoors.
