review body:

The case is named for the foam material used in a small central circle of protection and padding on the four corners. Its core is a curved, clear, hard plastic back surrounded by sturdy rubber edges that protect the volume buttons while leaving the Sleep/Wake button exposed. Along the bottom, the holes are large enough to accept large and angled headphone plugs, and even the largest Lightning connectors, although you won’t be able to use Apple’s Lightning to 30-Pin Adapter or docking systems. We really like the way the design looks and feels, although the plastic did develop scratches pretty quickly.

BX2 Protector Case’s biggest differentiating feature is the stand. Anchored in the center of the foam circle, the bottom curls out when you press in right around the center; the concept is comparable to that of slap bracelets. You do have to press in just the right place to make it pop out, but you’ll very quickly get used to it. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen such stand technology in a case, but it’s implemented well, allowing your iPhone to be propped up in portrait or landscape orientation. We found it fun to play with, too; fidgeters will either love or hate it for that reason.

Brenthaven hit almost every mark with this case: BX2 has an attractive design, button protection that’s just shy of what we’re usually looking for, and a really cool stand in the back. Compared to VarioProtect, and even more directly, VarioClear, though, it’s a bit more expensive and doesn’t offer the same array of angles. Because of this, it earns a B+, our strong general recommendation. We do really like it, and with a few refinements, it would be truly great.
