imageCelebrating its fifth year, the world’s most popular iPod and iPhone buyers’ guide has arrived!

Packed with the latest and greatest new products, the 150-page 2009 iPod + iPhone Buyers’ Guide features more than a dozen new sections. Here’s what’s inside:

As always, our 2009 iPod + iPhone Buyers’ Guide is a completely free download. You have a choice between two versions: one is in book-style two-page spread format, which is best for monitors 15” or larger on the diagonal. The other is a full-screen single-page format, available in separate versions for viewing on monitors that are smaller than 15” on the diagonal, and for touchscreen devices including the iPhone and iPod touch. Please download only one version so that others can get their copies quickly. PC users should have Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later. Mac, iPhone, and iPod touch users can use Safari.

Please tell a friend about the new Guide! We welcome you to share it on your file-sharing network of choice, with friends through e-mail, or though a mirror link (post in comments below). Enjoy!

Wow! Thanks ilounge for selecting me a winner! It was def a welcome surprise this morning. Will we be contacted by email? Thanks again iLounge!!

As noted in the contest rules, we will be closing any comment disparaging the winners of the contests and banning the individuals disparaging them. Don’t enter if you can’t stand to lose.

Congratulations to the contest winners for your superb submissions—you were selected as the top entries by a panel of four judges. As is always the case, winners were selected solely on merit, without names or addresses attached, and the judges had literally no idea who or where the winning entries came from until they were selected.

Thank you ilounge! And a great job on this year’s buyer’s guide!

Guess I am spending too much time checking out iLounge if I am one of the top 5 iLounge posters.  I better get back to work in 2009!  Thanks for the mention and keep up the great work.

Also I can’t wait to see some of the “sneak peek” accessories out in the stores.  The Kensington bluetooth speaker might be a nice addition to my car.

Hi guys. At first, thank you so much. I won the grand prize in the ipod as art contest and i still can´t belive it. I hope my submission has liked everyone. I have a few doubts:
how i receive the prize?. Do you establish contact with me via e-mail?. And finally, is TV adapted to my country (Spain)?.
Ciao my friends.

Hey, I forgot it. Happy halloween!

By Jesús Rodríguez Martín on 10.31.08 at 06:16 PM

First - let me say another outstanding job on the Buyers’ Guide. Whomever you have designing/laying out the piece is really good.

Secondly - amazing job by all on the submissions. It must have been really hard to pick.

Third(ly) - thanks and cheers on your choice for both thirds. I’m freaked out and honoured.

just a question…
in the iPoD TouCh page [and even on the right of THIS page] the back seems to be white and not in steel, just like the iPHoNe…is it a visual effect or it’s a case? If it’s a case, which one? Really like it, can’t wait 2 buy it! thx!

The winners were fantastic! I’m honored to be even mentioned among those, great contest!

By Vatche K on 11.04.08 at 07:52 PM

looks so good, thanks for the efforts, but since I’m a new user, I just wanna know how I can put these PDF files into my iPhone so that I can read it whereever I go. could anyone teach me how to do ?

By kakoiijing on 11.05.08 at 05:20 AM

I would have liked to have seen you break down the pdf’s for iphone into 4 separate files.  Even with 8megs, the viewing and page turns are tediously slow and difficult even on a 16 gig iphone.

By rickw on 11.06.08 at 10:35 AM

@kakoiijing.

The best way to go is to use a program called AirSharing.  You can download it from iTunes.  I think it’s about 5.99.  It is by far the best file downloading program for the iPhone.  It allows you to download and upload files from any computer, not just the one linked to iTunes.

A simpler way would be to email yourself the document and the email program in the iPhone will automatically read the pdf file for you.

Which of course leads to the question, why isn’t there a Preview program on the iPhone in the first place….

Hope that helps.

from barcelona Jesus, me paso lo mismo el año pasado, congratulations again

By gonzalo on 11.07.08 at 10:25 AM

I understand the importance to cover new ipod models, however many of us are still using the old nano, and I would have liked to see more coverage of it in this book, its the whole reason i downloaded it.

By Sophie on 11.30.08 at 02:12 PM

Previous editions of the Buyers’ Guide focus on old iPods, including old iPod nanos. Download them for free at our Library.

By Jeremy Horwitz on 11.30.08 at 07:38 PM

Hi Guys!!
Your doing a stellar job as usual. Thank you.
I seem to have a problem with the files that I am downloading.
I have tried 3 out of 4 files, 2 from the first server, 1 from the 2nd server.
When I open the file it has white pages all the way through, blank.
What am I doing wrong?? I have an older titanium powerbook running OS 10.3.9.
I open all pdf files with preview.
Please advise!!
Regards, Duncan R.

Agh! My eyes!

I would so love to read more the Buyers’ Guide, but I have to limit my exposure to maintain my eyesight.

White type on a black backgrounds looks so cool. And in limited quantities, it is great. But in large doses, it is impossible for some eyes (OK, older eyes!) to read. The information you provide is so good that it demands to be read and studied closely. I resorted to control-option-command-8 to make the type black and the background white. That made it more readable, but also turned all the images into their negative.
