image

This contest is now closed for judging. Winners will be announced in the 2008 Buyers’ Guide on November 1.

Every year, iLounge publishes a new iPod and accessories Buyers’ Guide. On November 1, 2007, iLounge will release our 2008 Buyers’ Guide, and 6 lucky contest winners will be announced inside.

We have two contests for this year’s edition. The first is The Holiday iPod Photo Contest, for readers with photographic talents, and the second is The iPhone nano Concept Contest, for readers with art skills. This year’s prizes include deluxe Ultimate Ears earphones, Geneva Lab speakers, and three brand new iPods!

Even though we can’t put text over the iPhone Nano, we are still able to include a styled background, correct?

By ddsd on 10.06.07 at 07:41 AM

Can we use official pictures from Apple?

By James on 10.06.07 at 01:38 PM

Another question for the contest -> is there a maximum size for the image?

By masterpiece on 10.07.07 at 08:16 PM

And how long should it take for entries to show up? I submitted two Saturday afternoon and they’ve yet to show up?

By ddsd on 10.08.07 at 11:51 AM

i have some questions. i edited my entry, and wanna re upload. can i?

By raj on 10.11.07 at 04:58 PM

So which iPhone Nano concept is your favorite?

By JOSHequalsMC2 on 10.12.07 at 05:30 PM

"i have some questions. i edited my entry, and wanna re upload. can i?”

Same here. I forgot to put my name on my entries, but I entered my location....

By ddsd on 10.13.07 at 11:00 AM

Minimum 1600 pixels wide? I submitted mine 1600 pixels wide and it’s 10x bigger than everyone elses.

By James on 10.15.07 at 08:34 PM

If you click on each individual submission, they are all 1600 pixels wide.

By Joel on 10.15.07 at 09:19 PM

Jeremy - please clarify “or based in part on iLounge photos of the current-generation iPhone or iPod family”. Where would said photos be located? I’m leary of photo-rights usage (especially Apple’s), and am wondering if same-icon usage of Apple’s interface would be a problem.

Thanks and Cheers!

By Warren Piece on 10.18.07 at 10:12 PM

for some reason every time i try to sumit an entry an error message comes up what should i do?

By shannon agllagher on 10.19.07 at 06:27 AM

Some of iLounge’s photos are here.

By Jeremy Horwitz on 10.19.07 at 09:39 AM

Thanks Jeremy grin

By Warren Piece on 10.19.07 at 09:44 AM

Just a friendly reminder for everyone. I was looking through a few brilliant concept entries but they didn’t have names or locations attached. I don’t know whether those would qualify…

By Joel on 10.19.07 at 01:31 PM

The rules dont ask for a location so hopefully that wouldnt change our eligibility

By JOSHequalsMC2 on 10.19.07 at 03:46 PM

Yeah, I didn’t put my name or location on my submission either, didn’t see a place to do it. What should I do?

By Brian Joseph on 10.19.07 at 05:42 PM

At the bottom of the contest descriptions, in italics, it says rather bluntly that location is needed…

By Joel on 10.19.07 at 05:43 PM

i see that now, its great how there was no place to enter a location and thats not stated in the actual rules.

By JOSHequalsMC2 on 10.20.07 at 08:51 AM

Simply, i wanted to comment you that i submitted several works named “iphone nano concept” numbered from 01 to 06 and i only have seen the number 06 in the gallery. Although all are very seemed, it exist some diferences between them (basically the background)also in the first image i do a little description about functionalities of the gadget.
P.D.: I forgot to include my name in the concepts submitted thus I hope this comment help us if you need my name.

So, for the holiday ipod contest, the photo needs to be a minimum of 1600 pixels wide? When you click on ‘submit your entry’ it says photos should be 640 x 480--so which size should it be?

By Pan86 on 10.22.07 at 05:40 PM

i love the iPhone Nano and the “Nano-Nano” concept. the phone design looks amazing. good job

By JOSHequalsMC2 on 10.25.07 at 11:52 AM

Why are all of these iPhone Nano a smaller version of the iPhone with the same/very similar functionalities?  It is not supposed to be iPhone Gen2.

Nano version should be simpler with less capabilities as a phone (not a smartphone).  Maybe just phone, sms and iPod Nano functionalities.  Otherwise, it will erode the iPhone market.

By zero2sixty on 10.25.07 at 02:22 PM

I disagree. The iPhone Nano doesn’t necessarily have to have less features. Look at the iPod Nano… it pretty much has the same features as the iPod classic.

In the case of the iPhone, it’s clear that the first gen iPhone left a lot to be desired (see iLounge’s review or a bunch of other reviews). If anything, the iPhone Nano should fix the deficits in the iPhone and include MORE capabilities to show improvement over the last product.

When and if an iPhone nano comes out, I expect a 2G iPhone to come out as well so it won’t be a case of the iPhone nano being ahead of the iPhone.

By masterpiece on 10.25.07 at 03:36 PM

A better comparison is Nano to Touch, not Classic.  It is clear that Classic and Nano is essentially the same with the exception of storage size (and physical size; hence play time capacity as well).

If iPhone represents something similar, in this particular comparison to Touch, then iPhone Nano should compare to iPod Nano.

As for 3G being a differentiator, it does not make much sense.  I would fully expect both versions to have same cellular connection capability.

By zero2sixty on 10.26.07 at 10:14 AM

I submitted several designs last night around 6PM… just wanted to make sure that they were received since I don’t see them up in the gallery yet and the contest is now closed smile. I got the “successfully uploaded” dialogues so hopefully they were in.

Thanks for the great contest iLounge!

By cdoan on 10.26.07 at 12:56 PM

do we really have to wait a week to find out who one? thats so far away. :(

By JOSHequalsMC2 on 10.26.07 at 07:41 PM

yeah i misspelled won sorry

By JOSHequalsMC2 on 10.26.07 at 07:42 PM

cdoan! you did a great rendering and very detailed descriptions! wow wow wow! My submission it the flexible one. It was fun to make a concept for this contest. Thanks iLounge!

By potatoe on 10.27.07 at 05:34 AM

I think that the rule about having to submit your name and location for the Holiday iPod Photo contest should have been in the Official Rules section if you are going to disqualify people who didn’t put it in the “description” box.

By Tanya on 10.27.07 at 10:55 PM

Congrats to the winners of the contest!

By Brian Joseph on 11.01.07 at 03:03 AM
