Fall is fast approaching in the United States, which means one thing: new iPods will soon be here! As we count down to the launch of Apple’s next generation of portable media players, we’re launching an art contest - the New iPod Countdown Contest - with prizes by leading earphone maker Shure.

The rules are simple: use your artistic skills - Photoshopping, 3-D rendering, or traditional 2-D art - to create a realistic or semi-realistic “next-generation iPod.” It can be an iPod, mini tablet computer, iPod Phone, or something different, as long as it’s obviously a portable media player from Apple. This time, we are looking only for serious entries - not humorous ones - so submit wisely. You can submit as many entries as you want. Art must be submitter’s original work and submitted only to iLounge. Previous submissions are not eligible - create something new and better!

Submit your picture(s) to our 2006 iPod Countdown Contest Gallery - minimum size 640x480 pixels. We will pick three winners to win awesome prizes from Shure - one Grand Prize winner will get a pair of top-rated E500PTH Sound Isolating Earphones (retail value: $550.00), with two additional winners receiving Shure E4c and E3c earphones, respectively.

The deadline for submissions is September 9, 2006 at 11:59PM (PT).

Not that I’ll be entering this myself, but I’m curious: by what standards will the entries be judged? The degree to which the entry matches the new iPod? The degree of innovation and smart design of the iPod in the entry? What criteria are the judges looking for, other than the entry being serious and being for an Apple PMP?

Is there some sort of address to send these to? Or do i have to put my drawings in a scanner and send them....cuz I don’t have a scanner and I really suck with the mouse.

iLounge: Please read the directions for submissions above.

Whatever happened to the iPod 2010 Concept Art Contest? June’s come and long gone, and still no winners? What’s the matter?

By polterbyte on 08.09.06 at 06:30 PM

The winners were already announced…

"Associates, employees, principles, or relatives thereof of iLounge are not eligible.”

isn’t that princiPALs?

By formatc1702 on 08.12.06 at 08:49 PM

"isn’t that princiPALs?”

Get over it.

By Mart on 08.14.06 at 05:25 AM

hmmm, the principles of iLounge are not eligible…

By ron on 08.14.06 at 09:22 AM

I’d like to see comments for the entries :~
Guess it’d be nice to see positive comments from the other designers, or the compliments for a good job ^^

I leave here my suggestion ^^

i cant upload please help

By kong on 08.27.06 at 03:31 AM

file size limit is 150 kb, and minimum dimensions are 480x640.

By peter on 08.27.06 at 12:21 PM

is there something up with the contest gallery because it keeps saying
Coppermine critical error:
Unable to connect to database !

By james on 08.30.06 at 08:54 AM

Hmmmm… mines doing the exact same thing James’ is.  Can anyone comment?  I can’t view submissions or submit my own entry! :(

By ccutlip on 08.30.06 at 05:29 PM

ilounge please sort this out, some people including me cannot upload entries or view entries already uploaded.

By anon on 08.31.06 at 06:43 AM

Thanks for solving the problem with the galleries, iLounge.

I can’t wait for the results (hope you consider mine!).

By ccutlip on 09.01.06 at 01:27 AM

above it states that:file size limit is 150 kb, and minimum dimensions are 480x640. But if you hover ur mouse above entries in the contest it shows that some people are over those the file size limit, are these entries still eligable to win the contest. Someone please tell me.

By james on 09.01.06 at 04:56 AM

this contest is great, but some people are desperate enough to spam the ratings so they could get on the “highest rated” list. One entry received 40+ votes in its first day averaging above 4, while other entries didnt get many more votes.

are people really that desperate?

By anon on 09.01.06 at 09:19 PM

It doesn’t matter if people tell other people to rate their picture because shure itself will announce the winners - the rating isn’t so important I think.

By mm on 09.02.06 at 11:09 AM

its also annoying whem ppl rate other entries down and then theirs, they rate up.

By sting2kx on 09.02.06 at 09:29 PM

sumone read my comment about the file size thing, people are aloowed to make entries with their file size above the maximum 150kb?

By james on 09.03.06 at 02:33 AM

they probably wont be counted as an entry. i think

By sting2kx on 09.03.06 at 04:27 AM

do they want you to design the ipod that they are really gonna make next or do they want creativity?

By kong on 09.03.06 at 09:23 PM

I guess the ratings are kinda pointless, as iLounge is the final judge…

I agree that the contest criteria is kinda vague. If they just wanted to see who predicted the next iPod most accurately, the entries would be pretty boring…

By anon on 09.05.06 at 11:00 AM

could anyone at ilounge tell us when the winners of this contest will be announced, thankyou

By anon on 09.11.06 at 08:35 AM

yea, it says that they will be announced around mid-september, so I would guess one of the days this week

By brad on 09.11.06 at 02:43 PM

I suppose the designs submitted on the 10th and 11th are unfortunately ineligible?

By anon on 09.12.06 at 12:31 PM

I would have thought so, rules are rules and its only fair on everyone else.

By Sticky on 09.13.06 at 06:22 AM

well i think maybe these pics were SUBMITTED before sep 10 but ilounge editors APPROVED them afterwards.
that’s what i think anyways…

at least i know i entered my design early enough smile

By formatc1702 on 09.13.06 at 06:09 PM

huh… mid-septemer is drifting away and still no results? or did i miss something?

By formatc1702 on 09.24.06 at 05:18 PM

is it mid-September yet?

Winners will be announced and published in mid-September 2006

By G.W. Bush on 09.25.06 at 04:30 PM
