The Free iPod Book 2.0 Contest - iLounge
image

Every new iLounge Guide has its contests, so we’ve lined up two great ones for the June release of The Free iPod Book 2.0! Test your artistic or photographic skills for a chance to win one of six pairs of Shure’s brand new, top-of-the-line E500PTH earphones ($499 each) - the new triple-driver earbuds that won iLounge’s 2006 Best of Show Award in January. Thanks to Shure for sponsoring these prizes! One Grand Prize winner will also win a brand-new Apple Computer Intel Mac mini, courtesy of iLounge.

Contest 1: iPod 2010 Concept Art Contest

In this no holds barred iPod 2010 Art Contest, we’re looking for the three best pieces of “future iPod” concept art out there - original art showing what you think iPods might look like 4 years from now. We will choose one winner for each of three categories:

Winners announced in The Free iPod Book 2.0 | View Entries

Guidelines: Art must be submitter’s original work and submitted only to iLounge. Focus on only one category (realistic, creative, or funniest) per entry if you want to maximize your chances - we are not looking for entries that overlap categories. Looking for inspiration? Please see our favorite iPod Concepts from the last iPod Concepts contest (2004), and view our iPod Concepts photo gallery. Previous submissions are not eligible - create something new and better! Remember, this is the iPod of 2010, not the iPod of 2007, so be creative!

Contest 2: iPods Everywhere Photo Contest

If you’re not an artist, take a shot at the iPods Everywhere Photo Contest, where all it takes to win is the top photograph of an iPod in one of three settings.

Winners announced in The Free iPod Book 2.0 | View Entries

Guidelines: The more fun or interesting the photo, the better. If other people appear in the photo, be sure you have their permission. Photo must be submitter’s original work and submitted only to iLounge. You may not digitally edit the photo in any way other than to crop and/or adjust its brightness and contrast. Entrants must submit full-sized, high resolution images of 1600x1200 or greater size immediately on request of iLounge.

Wouldn’t it be fairer to allow entries from both competitions to eligible to win the mini?

By Chris on 04.18.06 at 05:17 AM

The mini is an incentive for the contest that we wanted to more strongly incentivize.

By Jeremy Horwitz on 04.18.06 at 09:46 AM

Let’s hope Isamu Sanada is a good sport and lets other people have a go as well wink

By Prodigital on 04.18.06 at 10:03 AM

Hey, Gotta question;

for the concept iPod, can we photoshop some details if we’re artistically challenged with traditional media?

By evil22furby on 04.18.06 at 10:27 AM

I’m starting on this tonight.  And why isn’t it on the main page.

By Taylor on 04.18.06 at 02:26 PM

What is the max. size for the iPod concept design?

By Maxman on 04.18.06 at 07:15 PM

What do they mean by send them an email? What should be included in the email?

By Dave on 04.18.06 at 08:10 PM

Am I the only one who saw this -> Deadline for entries: May 22, 2005, at 11:59PM Pacific Time.

Mistype or it’s already done and over?

Editor’s Note: It’s been corrected. Thanks for pointing that out.

By David Olinsky on 04.18.06 at 08:19 PM

Yay already submitted I hope I win smile and please don’t rate my photos 0 if you come across them that’s just mean :(

By Azhar Chougle on 04.19.06 at 06:50 AM

When you say “Three photos and/or three art concepts may be submitted per person, maximum.” does that mean one person can enter three photos AND three art concepts for a total of 6 entries (3 in each competition)?

By iowaholdem on 04.19.06 at 11:23 PM

Are we allowed to win more than one prize? (just curious I know I won’t) and I hope previous winners are not at a disadvantage. Also - I noticed in the last two photo competitions (Flags and B&W) both winner pictures were of teenage girls,I hope that does not happen again.

By Azhar on 04.20.06 at 10:10 AM

Sorry, i’m not English-speaking, but can you explain this sentence in a plain way?

“Three photos and/or three art concepts may be submitted per person, maximum.”

In other words, 6 works in total (3 in each category) or what??

Thanks,

By Matteo Moruzzi on 04.20.06 at 11:38 AM

I do speak english and I have the same question as you!

Can you please clarify if this is “and” part or the “or” part?

If its that “and” than this implies 3 entries each category, if its the “or” it implies three entries in one contest or the other (or maybe 2 in the first contest and 1 in the other.)

By Mijman2 on 04.20.06 at 04:28 PM

You’re allowed to do 3 entries in Art and 3 entries in Photo. Don’t expect to win more than one prize - unless you’re the Grand Prize winner. grin

By Jeremy Horwitz on 04.22.06 at 04:03 PM

It says we must send an email. What email???!

By bhaviksingh on 04.23.06 at 07:04 AM

The Most Creative Entry Prize is ALUED at $499?

By lilimacmike on 04.23.06 at 12:07 PM

Upload your photo and follow the instructions on this page:

By Dennis Lloyd on 04.23.06 at 12:18 PM

For the iPod & car contest, can we expand car to include something like a van, bus (if you’re a bus driver or something), oro something?

By evil22furbby on 04.25.06 at 11:43 AM

Do the pictures for the Contest have a specific size?
The submit page tells about generic iPod designs and iPod everywhere submissions…

By Sprint on 04.26.06 at 10:25 AM

what is the size limit. several people asked, but i still see no answer.

By kymac on 04.30.06 at 06:39 PM

640x480, maximum 300kb filesize is fine.

By Dennis Lloyd on 05.01.06 at 10:13 AM

I am definatly gonna enter this contest! and as much as I want a mac, I REALLY want those shure earphones!!!
and I know I won’t win the grandprise NEwayz, so no worries

By Hanan Marton on 05.07.06 at 11:57 AM

Great!
Looks like we have a winner!

IPOD Contest aarastas!
more than 210 votes in 3 days! and only with 300 page visits!
That’s a phenomenon!

...
Or a vote faker ¬¬

At least leave the people vote in peace, dude!

By frankfighter on 05.09.06 at 12:23 PM

and he votes the other competitors down…

By Logan Fish on 05.09.06 at 01:32 PM

hey is the result only depends on the votes voted to the pic?

By boopathy on 05.11.06 at 03:46 AM

the jury (ilounge) won’t care about the votes in any way.
in my opinion “aarastas” entry sucks anyway :D
so… the others shouldn’t care about the votes smile

i would very much prefer a comment feature for the pictures instead of voting. don’t know if it’s very difficult or perhaps in the end even expensive to implement that feature… but it would at least be much more “constructive critique” then (fig.) “that’s not my picture. 0 stars.” and of course alternatively “that IS my picture. 5 stars.”

By mark on 05.11.06 at 08:41 AM

true^^

By ebigDee on 05.12.06 at 01:17 PM

That’s a great idea. I wonder how much effort it would take to do that?

However, iLounge doesn’t care about the votes. This is what they said to me via email, “We will judge all photos”

Plain and simple.

Good luck to all!

By Nalrac on 05.14.06 at 01:09 PM

I agree someone out there seems to think that the user vote counts for something but for me clicking 5/5 over and over doesn’t seem like a great pastime.  So to all my epileptic fans out there try to click only once.  Though I do appreciate entries like iSky (one of the Last uploads) using my entry as a base for theirs.  Now that’s a complement smile

By Aarastas on 05.15.06 at 04:50 PM

The person who took that picture of the computer screen with the picture as the background entered the same idea last year and won. Is that allowed?

By Taylor on 05.16.06 at 12:20 PM

Forget the viewer votes. It’s just a “fun” gimmick. It won’t play a factor in deciding the winners. The winners will almost certainly be decided by those who put together the iPod book, based on artistic value and creativity/vision. Some of the best entries aren’t doing well on votes, because other competitors vote them down on purpose. So, I doubt the vote totals and percentages are even considered in the judging.

By praetor on 05.16.06 at 12:46 PM

aarastas, i hope jonathan ive wont do so, too…
however, what will you do with your new intel mac mini once it arrives? you should handsign it and sell it on the internet.
good luck smile

By mark on 05.17.06 at 12:21 PM

So....who do you think is gonna win so far??

By Adam on 05.17.06 at 03:58 PM

well, my favorites until now are:

most realistic:
theipod2010.jpg
funniest:
IL_MORUZ_concept3_640_480.jpg
most creative:
Amvdesign-ContestEntry.jpg

however, I will upload the best overall entry in about 1 or 2 days, I didn’t have enough time to make it ready yet smile wink

for photos until now, i like the “out of reach” one with the cat smile

By marki on 05.18.06 at 12:46 AM

Hey I just entered my photos so they should appear soon by around tommorow morning. I really hope I win though. I entered two categories; the outside and the inside category. I was really intimidated when I looked at the entries and saw that the leading picture based on votes what the picture of the cute little girl. I don’t have anything cute here so I tried to throw in a little creativity. I put a lot of thought into my photos so I hope I have a good chance to win.

By bigDee on 05.22.06 at 12:53 AM

2010 people, not 2050, holographic emitters? Tactile extrusion?  And who really wants a gargantuan iPod?  The many clamshell designs are contrary to the single handed use of the iPod.  I only see a few that are possible futures for the iPod.  I like the submissions that use the iPod as a mobile media hub (i.e. wirelessly use your HDTV as the main movie viewer, ability to use car/home stereo for music). And adding in a camera and phone just make sense.

By aarastas on 05.22.06 at 10:43 AM

Aaah, but did you read the contest description?

When you see, “no holds barred” and “so be creative” then you know you don’t need to stay within the bounds of what might ACTUALLY be.

By praetor on 05.22.06 at 01:39 PM

Dude this is going all wrong. Man is that little girl’s photo really that good? I have a feeling that guy is cheating. Cause I first entered it earlier today and for the first couple of hours it was going smooth. Had about 35 votes with a 4.8 rating. I come back an hour later and BAM! Over 60 votes and which looks like nothing but zero star votes cause my rating went to the crapper.

I hope this really doesn’t go by votes. Cause that would suck.

By bigDee on 05.22.06 at 06:19 PM

I may have it all wrong but even with the “no holds barred” in the contest description, I interpret “what you think iPods might look like 4 years from now” and “Best Realistic Entry Prize” as actual possibilities for the 2010 iPod.  But just incase I’m wrong I’ll have to draw up a wireless rental stimulation device controlled by thought, abandoning the iconic click wheel all together, that can compute in the Yotta Flop domain, run all known operating systems, have a few Zetta Bytes of solid state memory, all wrapped up in a in a microscopic clam shell design with an eternal battery.

By aarastas on 05.22.06 at 08:29 PM

never say never, aarastas… never, say, never. smile

By Mark on 05.22.06 at 08:44 PM

What are your favorite photograph entries for each category (Home, Car, Outside)? Which entries do you think will win for each of those categories?

By Jay on 05.23.06 at 07:25 PM

I hope they’re not, since the guy w/ the 3yr old granddaughter and the stupid ‘mouse’ picture basically voted for themselves again and again.

By ihopenot on 05.24.06 at 12:01 PM

Yeah, except you can only vote for one entry once.  Everyone that is convinced that the top few are the top because they vote for themselves a million times is wrong.  Just try and vote for an entry twice--it can’t be done.

By sarsosari on 05.24.06 at 02:23 PM

"stupid mouse?”

I don’t understand. I realize that its a poor quality photo but I did put a lot of thought and effort into making it right. I just wanted to make my picture to have something to think about just for a sec and get a laugh out of, instead of some quick snapshot of a cute little girl with her iPod doing nothing. I’m not trying to boast, I’m just saying… Do you know what I mean?

Oh yeah and about the votes, I honestly didn’t cheat or anything witht he votes. If I did, I would have voted 5 stars all the way through.

Anyway, I hope it doesn’t go by the votes. The best picture for the car is the one with the young female standing outside beside a car, its in black and white.

The best outside one is definitely the picture of the funeral. I like that one a lot.

By bigDee on 05.24.06 at 07:23 PM

Hi sarsosari.
Just clear your browse cookies after you voted and you can vote on the same picture again.
That’s lame and I believe that are too many people doing this.

By check on 05.24.06 at 09:21 PM

So, Which ones look like winners to all of you?

My choices so far.

normal_Mockup.jpg
iPod7GMJP.jpg
iPod_2010.jpg

but I could change my mind.

By loungelizard on 05.25.06 at 07:49 AM

I actually like mine the best. (But people say I’m biased...)

Any idea how long the judging takes?

By praetor on 05.25.06 at 08:50 AM

Right--but what a waste of time.  It is lame.  I hope people have better things to do with their time than that.  Who knows!!

By sarsosari on 05.25.06 at 09:53 AM

I think a lot of the entries are pretty good. I also think people who use “Tactile extrusion” and “holographic emitters” in their entries are gunning for the “most CREATIVE” prizes. Sheesh. Scientists are working on a camo suit that projects the surrounding foliage onto the suit itself, so I don’t think advanced stuff is all that far off. Lets all IMAGINEER! wink

By barkolounge on 05.25.06 at 04:48 PM

my favourites are:

most realistic:
“iPod7GMJP.jpg”
a concept who have everything.

funniest:
“zzz_ipod2010fun.jpg”
jajaja, are we being brainwashed by the iPod?

most creative:
“apple home final.jpg”
a lot of devices that Apple keep in mind…

By kent on 05.26.06 at 02:38 PM

where and when do they announce the winners?

By neda on 05.30.06 at 08:04 AM

How long does it take to judge a contest like this?
