ezGear announces new iPod accessories

EzGear has announced several new iPod accessories, including two new alarm clocks, a new speaker system, and a new line of armbands for both the iPod and iPhone. The ezWake WK3 iPod Alarm Clock is a small, iPhone-compatible alarm clock that uses audio components similar to those used in the company’s larger units. It will be available in March for $50. The ezGear XL90 Sound Bar speaker system for iPod incorporates seven speakers — two tweeters, four midrange speakers, and a separate vented sub-woofer — and offers 35 watts of power. Other features include an integrated iPod dock that supports charging, a LCD display, remote control with iPod menu navigation, auxiliary input, a built-in AM/FM radio, and iPhone compatibility. The XL90 Sound Bar will ship in March, and will sell for $300. imageThe ezWake WK10 Alarm Clock Radio for iPod is a 2.1 speaker system with 2 stereo speakers and 1 vented subwoofer, ezTouch controls with a large snooze button, remote control with the ability to navigate all iPod menus, a dimmable display, dual alarms, a line-n jack, AM/FM Radio with 20 presets, and an integrated Universal Dock. The ezGear WK10 Alarm Clock comes in black or white and will sell for $100. Lastly, the company announced its ezGear Ultralight Armbands for the iPod nano (with video), iPod classic, iPod touch, and iPhone. They are made of lightweight breathable neoprene and include a reflective material on the front for safety and a clear screen protector. The ezGear Ultralight Armband line will be available later this month and will sell for $25 each.

ProClip intros Device Holders for iPod touch, classic, nano, and iPhone

ProClip has introduced new in-vehicle Device Holders for the iPhone and iPod touch, iPod classic, and iPod nano (with video). The holders, manufactured by Brodit AB in Sweden, are custom made and device specific, and attach to vehicle specific ProClip dashboard mounts. ProClip holders may also be attached to other manufacturers’ vehicle mounts or any other flat surface, and the Padded Holder with Tilt Swivel tilts 15 degrees in any direction for optimal viewing. “Securely and conveniently mounting handheld devices like the Apple iPod, without damaging a vehicle’s interior, is what we do best,” says Bjorn Spilling, president of ProClip USA. “We offer mounting solutions that are custom designed for virtually every car in the world, and for all popular handheld devices.” ProClip Device Holders for the iPhone, iPod nano (with video), iPod classic, and iPod touch are available now, and sell for $25-$35.

H2O Audio ships iN3 case for iPod nano

H2O Audio has introduced its iN3 waterproof case for the iPod nano (with video). The iN3 is waterproof up to 10 feet, and features a Commander Click Wheel control that allows full function control of the nano, a LatchTight locking closure that is designed to generate uniform compression for a waterproof seal, a SealTight headphone connector that offers compatibility with 3.5mm headphones and provides a complete waterproof seal when used with H2O Audio waterproof headphones, and an included armband and belt clip. “The 3rd gen nano has added video capability to an enormous playlist capacity in an even sleeker package than its predecessors. Our new iN3 follows Apple’s lead, providing a waterproof case that complements the player’s distinctive style, while providing users the opportunity to surf and swim with their music,” said Kristian Rauhala, CEO of H2O Audio. The H2O Audio iN3 waterproof case for the iPod nano (with video) is available now and sells for $80.

XtremeMac premieres Luna X2 iPod clock radio

XtremeMac has announced its Luna X2 clock radio for iPod, an updated version of the company’s well-received Luna Alarm Clock. The Luna X2 features two full-range precision speakers and a hi-dynamic power amplifier that offer performance comparable to the original Luna. Other features include dual alarms that can be independently set to sound to iPod, radio or buzzer, with optional settings for volume, display brightness and snooze time, a new display with variable brightness control, an integrated Dock, an AM/FM radio with 8 programmable presets, an auxiliary input for connecting other audio sources, and an included remote control. The XtremeMac Luna X2 is available for pre-order now, and is expected to ship in the coming weeks. It is priced at $120.

Griffin shows new iPod accessories at Macworld

Griffin Technology has announced several new iPod accessories at Macworld Expo, adding to the new products the company announced last week. The PowerDock is an iPod charging base which incorporates four Apple Universal Docks to allow users with multiple iPods and iPhones to charge up to four devices at a time. The PowerDock includes a collection of Universal Dock insert adapters, and will be available in March for $70. The RoadTrip with SmartScan is a combination iPod charger, cradle, and FM transmitter that features a new design, a flexible stem that allows the user to place the cradle in their preferred position, imageand Griffin’s SmartScan technology that automatically finds and saves the three most clear frequencies for sending the music from the user’s iPod to the vehicle’s FM stereo system. It will be available at the end of january and will sell for $100. The WindowSeat is windshield mount for iPhone that features a high-grip silicone suction pad for attaching the unit to a windshield, a mounting bracket with swiveling ball-and-socket joints, and a corner-release tab. WindowSeat for iPhone will be available in March for $20.

The company’s popular iTrip FM transmitter for iPod has been redesigned for 2008; the new design works with both new and older Dock-enabled iPod models, and can also be used with iPods inside protective cases. The new iTrip is available now and sells for $50. imageThe iTrip for iPod nano has also received a new design that draws cues from Apple’s 3rd generation iPod nano. The new iTrip for iPod nano will be available in February for $50. The TuneFlex AUX is a cigarette lighter-mounted adjustable cradle and charger for iPod that features a new, universal design that includes a set of snap-on adapters to custom-fit full-size iPod and iPod nano models. Other features include a flexible steel neck, auxiliary output, and an included 3.5mm stereo mini cable to connect the TuneFlex to auxiliary input-equipped car stereos. The Tuneflex AUX is available now and sells for $50. Finally, Griffin introduced its Elan Form Cork case for iPhone. The Elan Cork is a unique cork-covered hard-shell case featuring a snap-together design that combines natural cork with a hard polycarbonate shell. It sells for $30, and is available now.

Tunewear intros Prie Ambassador SideHook for iPod touch

Tunewear has introduced its Prie Ambassador SideHook for iPod touch, a new leather case with an integrated hook that doubles as a stand for watching video. In addition to the hook/stand, the Ambassador SideHook also features a card slot on the back, access to all ports and controls, and included Tunefilm clear protective film to cover the touch’s face and mirrored back. The Tunewear Prie Ambassador SideHook for iPod touch is available in five color variations, including two in black leather as well as sienna, gold or silver models, and sells for $50.

Vestalife shows Ladybug iPod speaker system

Vestalife has introduced its Ladybug iPod speaker system, aimed at younger consumers. The ladybug features a spherical design, and speaker “wings” that fold out and down to reveal the integrated iPod dock and to provide stereo imaging. A center channel subwoofer faces rearward; other features include LED volume level indicators, a metallic soft-touch finish, an auxiliary input, a full-function remote control, a carrying bag, a USB for for syncing, AV out for video output, and the ability to run off AC or battery (4 AA) power. It will be available in the first quarter, and will come in either silver or red for $110; limited edition Ladybug systems with Element Skateboard designs will sell for $125. “We at Vestalife are thrilled by the attention the Ladybug has received so far,” said Vestalife Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Myk Lum.  “Younger consumers want a product that breaks free from traditional limitations of the speaker dock genre, and that actually has a personality they can identify with.  At the same time, they are as demanding as audiophiles.  The Ladybug fills this important gap in the marketplace, and we look forward to exposing this product and our entire company at MacWorld to a younger yet essential consumer audience.”

imageIn addition to its Ladybug system, the company is also expected to show its Butterfly iPod speaker system next week at Macworld Expo. The Butterfly offers a unique butterfly-shaped case design with four interchangeable, differently-colored front panels for customization. Other features include an integrated Universal iPod Dock, a mini-USB port for syncing, S-video and AV output, auxiliary input, automatic shut-off, and the ability to run off AC or battery (4 AA) power. Pricing and release information for the Butterfly has not yet been announced.

Zoom unveils Bluetooth transmitter for iPod

Zoom Technologies has announced its new iHiFi Model 4355 Bluetooth transmitter for iPod and iPhone. The 4355 connects to the iPod or iPhone via Dock Connector, and features Bluetooth 1.2 technology, with support for both the A2DP and AVRCP profiles. Other features include two LED status lights, and volume output control buttons on the unit. The Zoom iHiFi Model 4355 is available by itself for $40, or as part of the $90 Model 4385 bundle that includes both the 4355 iPod transmitter and a pair of the company’s Model 4380 Bluetooth headphones/headset. Both the standalone transmitter and bundle are available now.

RhinoSkin rolls out new cases for iPod classic

RhinoSkin has introduced its iPod classic Aluminum HardCase for both 80GB and 160GB models. The HardCase features a 100-percent aluminum back paired with a transparent, heat- and shatter-resistant polycarbonate front cover, offers access to the Click Wheel, hold switch, Dock Connector port, and headphone jack while in the case, comes with a lanyard and the RhinoClip removable post and belt clip system, and is also compatible with fifth-generation iPods. “We are happy to be able to provide unique and durable cases for multiple generations of iPod devices,” noted Kelley Wheeler, marketing manager for RhinoSkin. “Electronics manufacturers are constantly delivering new items to the consumer and we take pride in being able to protect people’s technological investments.” The RhinoSkin iPod classic Aluminum HardCase is available now and sells for $35.

VibeVault announces aluminum case for iPod touch

VibeVault has introduced its VibeVault aluminum case for the iPod touch. The VibeVault for iPod touch is made from anodized 6061-T6 aluminum, which offers a high strength to weight ratio, and features an included full-face screen protector, internal o-ring snuggers to ensure a proper fit, rounded outside corners for improved in-pocket feel, and access to all controls and ports. The VibeVault for iPod touch is available now and sells for $45.

Carl Zeiss to show Cinemizer iPod movie-viewing accessory

Renowned optics manufacturer Carl Zeiss AG plans to introduce the Cinemizer, a new movie viewing accessory for the iPod, next week at Macworld Expo in San Francisco, CA. According to the company, the Cinemizer, which features Carl Zeiss optics and a design by FROG, “allows users to watch their favorite videos on the iPod display at eye level and virtually in cinema quality.” Further details of the product have yet to be announced; however, you can expect more information and a hands-on look at the device next week.

Sony intros HD Radio with iTunes Tagging

Sony has introduced its XDR-S10HDiP HD Radio with iPod compatibility, the first tabletop radio of its kind from the company. iTunes Tagging enables the user to save song information with the touch of a button while listening to an HD Radio station. The information is loaded into a “Tagged” playlist on the iPod, and when connected to a computer, the playlist shows up in iTunes, making it easy to purchase the tagged songs. The unit also provides a wireless remote with full access to the iPod player menu, charges the iPod while it is docked and provides clock radio functionality. The Sony XDR-S10HDiP will be available this summer for about $180.

Griffin debuts ‘08 iPod accessories

Griffin Technology has introduced several new and updated iPod and iPhone accessories for early 2008. The iTrip AutoPilot with SmartScan is a FM transmitter for the iPod and iPhone. It features music playback controls on the charging stem, RDS technology to show song information on RDS-enabled car radio displays, the SmartScan feature that automatically finds the three best FM frequencies, and also charges the attached iPod or iPhone. It will be available during the second quarter and will sell for $100. imageThe company also introduced add-on speakers and charging bases for its Evolve Wireless Speaker System. Evolve lets users add a limitless number of speakers, and each speaker carries its own lithium-ion battery that can deliver up to 10 hours of playtime per charge. Users can play in mono mode to hear all the music through a single speaker, or pair additional speakers to the Base Station as either Right or Left channel stereo speakers. Along with new speakers, users can avoid overcrowding the charging station by adding a single speaker Charging Base. Evolve add-on speakers and charging bases will available in March as a bundle or individually. 2 speaker and charging base pairs will sell for $200, individual speakers and charging bases will run $100 and $30 each, respectively.

TuneBuds Mobile are an iPhone-compatible update to the company’s TuneBuds earphones, ofering users the same audio performance as the TuneBuds, while adding Griffin’s new ControlMic, a high-sensitivity microphone and control module featuring a single button to answer and end calls, and to play, skip, or pause music. TuneBuds Mobile will sell for $40 and will be available later this month.

The Griffin SmartTalk combines an iPhone-compatible headphone adapter with a noise-canceling microphone and a control module, allowing users to retain all the functionality of their iPhone while using their existing headphones or earphones. SmartTalk is available now and sells for $20. The company’s PowerJolt SE is a simple one-piece car charger featuring compatibility with all docking iPods and the iPhone. It will be available in March for $20.

imageIn addition to its iPod-specific accessories, Griffin also announced three universal USB charging accessories. The PowerBlock Dual Universal is an updated version of its PowerBlock AC charger, featuring two USB charging ports and a built-in LED. It will be available in late February for $25. The PowerJolt Universal is a car charger featuring an LED status light and a single USB charging port; it will be available in March for $15. Finally, the PowerDuo Universal combines the PowerBlock Dual Universal AC adapter and the PowerJolt Universal car USB charger into a single package. It will also be available in March, and is priced at $35.

Tekkeon unveils NavDock iPod Media Center

Tekkeon has introduced the NavDock, a new Home Media Center with on-screen iPod navigation. In addition to the integrated iPod dock and support for the iPod nano (with video) and iPod classic, the NavDock also features a 16-button wide angle infrared remote with a five-way navigation pad and quick keys that jump directly to the Videos, Photos, Music or Settings menus, and the ability to charge the iPod whether the unit is on or off. “With NavDock, we wanted users to have virtually complete on-TV control of their iPods,” says Jerry Yang, president of Tekkeon. “Rather than just provide minimal access to some of the iPod menus, NavDock enables users to take advantage of commonly used features, like lyrics and equalizer, all with the NavDock remote.” The Tekkeon NavDock is available now and sells for $130.

Sony rolls out two iPod shelf systems

Sony has introduced two new Made for iPod shelf systems featuring integrated iPod docks and Bluetooth connectivity. The CMT-BX20i and CMT-BX50BTi systems feature gloss black finishes and florescent displays. The iPod menu and system features can be accessed with the remote control, while the system charges the device. “We are continuing to evolve our shelf system offerings to reflect consumer listening habits,” said Andrew Sivori, director of personal audio marketing in the Digital Audio and Imaging Division at Sony Electronics.  “With the addition of iPod docks to most models, along with a bolder, more dramatic offering in our Muteki line, there’s a Sony shelf system for just about everyone.” The CMT-BX20i system offers a front-loading optical drive with support for CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 Playback, along with an audio-in jack and a bass reflex speaker system with 50 watts of total power. Other features include an AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets, Dynamic Sound Generator X-tra sound processing, and a remote control.  The CMT-BX20i micro shelf system will be available in February for about $130. The CMT-BX50BTi system offers all of the features of the CMT-BX20i system, plus Bluetooth A2DP technology to wirelessly stream CD-quality music to other Bluetooth devices like Bluetooth-enabled headphones, PCs, digital music players and cell phones. It will also be available in February, and will sell for about $180.

Panasonic announces home theater systems w/ iPod docks

Panasonic has introduced several new iPod-docking home theater systems, including the $300 SC-PT660, $400 SC-PT760, the $500 SC-PT960, and the flagship model, the SC-BT100 home theater in a box (HTiB) system featuring an integrated Blu-ray disc player. All four systems are Made for iPod certified and can play music or video through the home theater system, display audio tracks and menus on the TV screen and operate the iPod with the supplied remote control, and can also recharge the iPod while docked. Other features of the SC-BT100 include a SD Memory Card slot, wireless rear speakers, HDMI output, a Kelton-design subwoofer, and the ability to upgrade to 7.1-channel sound with the purchase of two side speakers and a wireless transceiver. “The Panasonic SC-BT100 home theater system is the best of both worlds,” says Paul Sabo, national marketing manager for Panasonic Home Audio. “It combines the installation ease and user-friendly operation of an HTiB plus the features and performance of high-end audio/video components, including full High Definition 1080p resolution Blu-ray video, wireless rear speakers and 7.1channel or multi-room/multi-source upgradeability.” The Panasonic SC-BT100 is expected to be available in May while the other three models are expected in April; pricing for the BT100 has yet to be announced.

Creative reveals Xdock HD upconverting iPod dock

Creative has revealed its Xdock HD, a new iPod dock designed for use with a home theater system. Optimally, the Xdock HD connects to a home theater system via HDMI, or it can be connected with component or composite for video and analog line-out or optical line-out for audio. The Xdock can upconvert iPod video to either 720p or 1080i, and also features the ability to output DTS surround sound as well as the ability to wirelessly play music through the company’s X-Fi Wireless Receivers. “We designed the Xdock HD so that all the movies, music and photos that you carry with you on your iPod can be experienced in HD in your home,” said Steve Erickson, VP of audio for Creative. “The Xdock HD transforms your iPod from a portable device into a high-quality HD entertainment system.” Other features include a wireless remote, on-screen menus for iPod navigation, X-Fi Crystalizer and X-Fi CMSS-3D technologies, and one included X-Fi Wireless Receiver. The Creative Xdock HD will be available this spring and will sell for $400.

Atlantic intros EGO iceBar(2) waterproof speaker system

Atlantic has introduced its new EGO iceBar(2) Waterproof Speaker System for iPod nano. The successor to company’s original iceBar, the iceBar(2) is a pocket-sized waterproof and shatterproof case made from a clear, bullet-proof polycarbonate material, with corner bumper guards and a shock-absorbing iPod compartment. The system features a silicone O-ring inside for a tight seal, waterproof neodymium speakers, a Click Wheel membrane, a headphone jack, a flip-out stand, and a removable nylon wrist strap, and can play for more than 16 hours on four AAA batteries. “With the new all-season iceBar(2), iPod nano owners can enjoy their favorite music in practically any setting,” said James Dardashti, chief operating officer of Atlantic. “Despite all the recent introductions from Apple, iPod nanos are still the most popular MP3 players on the market with millions of users who want to have a protective case to share their music with friends.” The Atlantic EGO iceBar(2) is compatible with all iPod nano models, and will be available in April for $69.

Tannoy intros i30 iPod speaker system

U.K.-based audio equipment manufacturer Tannoy has introduced its i30 iPod sound system to the US market. The i30’s buttonless design leaves all control to the included IR remote, and features an integrated Universal iPod Dock with included adapters for iPod mini, nano, nano 2G, iPod 5G, and iPhone, an auxiliary input, a USB port for syncing, two 4-inch iCT (inductive coupling technology) drives, a 50-watt amp, and a Digital Sound Processor (DSP) for optimal sound quality. The Tannoy i30 will sell for $400; the release date has yet to be announced.

iFrogz adds speakers to iPod nano with Thumpz

iFrogz has unveiled its new Thumpz, a 100-percent silicone iPod nano (with video) case with a built-in speaker. Thumpz utilizes a passive speaker technology to offer playback without extra batteries, simply connecting to the nano’s headphone jack inside the case. Other features include an earphone port at the bottom of the case, which disables the speakers when earphones are connected, and access to the iPod’s Click Wheel. Scott Huskinson, CEO and owner of iFrogz said, “This case stands out from the millions of iPod cases as it is the perfect iPod accessory you can see and hear. We feel this is the most exciting case we have ever introduced.” Thumpz for iPod nano is available in a variety of colors and is available now for $25; iFrogz has also said that Thumpz will also be available for the iPod classic and incorporated into the Tadpole case at a future date.
