  • iPod,

A UK night club in East London called dreambagsjaguarshoes is featuring a vinyl-free ‘noWax’ club night using iPods. Club goers are encouraged to bring their iPods to join in the mix.

“The concept for noWax is simple: bring down your iPod, take a ticket and wait in line. When an automated projector above the DJ booth flashes your number, it’s time to plug-n-play three songs alternatively against another budding iPod mixmaster. The winner will be decided by the audience response,. If they think you’re really terrible before you’ve finished - you’re off!”

iTMS Shutdown to prepare for iTunes for Windows?

I was heading over to the iPod discussions on Apple.com, and I noticed this header in bold:

“The iTunes Music Store will be unavailable on Sunday, September 21, 2003 from Midnight to approximately 2:30AM Pacific Daylight Time. Please plan to visit the iTunes Music Store either before or after this temporary outage.”

This is just pure speculation, but it is encouraging. Hopefully, the shutdown is for a server upgrade or something.  You know, to upgrade their hardware in preparation for a massive spike in visits…?  With recent reports pegging the release of iTunes for Windows as sometime in October, it looks like Apple is finally going to give all us Windows iPod users a present soon.

Reuters: iTunes Music Store Europe next year & iTunes Windows update

“‘We’re clearly working on it (but) I think we’ll do it next year,’ he told journalists on the fringes of the annual Apple Expo in Paris. He said it took time to sort out distribution rights with the music publishers who own the songs.

Jobs reiterated that, before the end of the year, Apple would bring iTunes and the online music store which has sold 10 million songs since its launch four months ago, to owners of personal computers that run on Microsoft’s Windows operating system.

‘We’re very much on track to execute iTunes for Windows,’  he said.”

SF Chronicle: Artists blast record companies over lawsuits against downloaders

“‘File sharing is a reality, and it would seem that the labels would do well to learn how to incorporate it into their business models somehow,’ said genre-busting DJ Moby in a post on his Web site. ‘Record companies suing 12-year-old girls for file sharing is kind of like horse-and-buggy operators suing Henry Ford.’”

Internetnews.com: Music Fans Still Burning

“Music is ubiquitous, as research from The NPD Group finds that nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of all U.S. households with Internet access had at least one digital music file on their hard drives, and more than half of that group had up to 100 digital music files.

While all of these music files aren’t the result of Internet downloading, NPD says that two-thirds of all digital music file acquisition can be attributed to file sharing, and the remainder is mainly attributed to ripping tracks directly from CDs.”
