Updated: Belkin responds to Media Reader file transfer issue

Brian VanHarlingen, Sr. Technology Manager for Belkin has submitted an official statement to iLounge regarding Belkin’s position on the Media Reader transfer issue.

A reader at dpreview.com has discovered that transferring large files from large capacity compact flash cards is a slow process. A 500MB file transferred from card to Media Reader took 22 minutes. Other transfer tests indicate slow speeds as well - about 1 minute to transfer a 20MB file at 0.300MB per second. Belkin has acknowledged that there is a problem with large file transfers. Belkin is said to be working with Apple to solve the problem. If it’s an hardware issue, Belkin says it will replace the units. If it’s a software issue, Apple will most likely release a firmware update.

LCD Remote for iPod?

A reader has informed us of an Apple iPod presentation on the Apple Sales Web website (members only). Of interest, is a slide depicting a photo of an iPod with an illustrated LCD remote, radio tuner and microphone. Two of the four accessories listed in the slide are shipping - the microphone and photo card reader by Belkin. And Griffin Technology has already announced an FM tuner for iPod. This information leads us to believe that one day there may be an LCD remote released as well. One can only hope. iLounge has verified the Apple iPod presentation for authenticity and concludes it is not a fake.

Macworld’s Jim Heid reviews the Belkin Media Reader for iPod

I’ve published a review of the Belkin Media Reader for iPod at my Mac iLife site. Overall, I really like this device, though I have yet to get iPhoto or Image Capture to recognize that the iPod contains photos.

Replacement battery for 3G iPods released

LaptopsForLess has released a battery replacement for 3rd generation (docking) iPods. The kit includes battery, installation instructions and a small screw driver. We do not recommend using the metal screw driver, because it can scratch your iPod when trying to open the case. Try using a thin, sturdy peice of plastic instead. The battery kit costs $49 and includes a one year warranty.

iLounger ‘alpower’ has posted a review of the iSkin eXo case and accessories along with other useful information related to iPod.

“Overall I highly rate this case, having used it both at work, cycling off-road, and generally out and about. While I generally take care of the iPod and tend not to drop it anyway, this does give one a bit more reassurance from knocks, and keeps the iPod very clean and scratch free.”

iPod Media Reader Review Posted

Andrew DeVigal has posted a review of the new iPod Media Reader for 3G iPods from Belkin.

“So, again it worked well the first time out. It requires four AAA batteries but Belkin included them in the box. I took a few shots and saved it on my Compact Flash. Updated my iPod since it wasn’t up to 2.1. Put the CF into the device and plugged in the iPod. Selected Extras > Photos > Import Photos > Import on the iPod. (The photo menu only shows up when the reader is connected). I ran a few tests and every once in awhile the iPod connection had to be re-established. But it always worked.”

    First Look at Belkin Media Reader

    iPoding has posted a first look at Belkin’s new Media Reader for iPod.

    “After finishing the importing and disconnecting the Media Reader we connected iPod to the PowerBook and launched iPhoto. iPhoto recognized iPod as a camera and the and brought up the import screen.  We clicked the import button.  We should note that we had imported two rolls into the iPod and iPhoto behaved as though it was importing both.  It turns out however that only the first roll made it into iPhoto.  (Please note: As noted above, we needed to reformat the card after the first time we imported and erased the card via iPod.  Something went very wrong along the way and subsequent imports from the card to iPod resulted in corrupted files.)”

    Belkin Releases Media Reader for 3G iPods

    Belkin Releases Voice Recorder for 3G iPods

    pic Belkin has released a new voice recorder ($50) for 3G iPods (Mac or Windows) and requires iPod Software 2.1.

    Today Belkin officially announced the release of the TuneDok in-car holder for iPod.

    Proporta to release aluminum iPod case

    picProporta will soon be releasing a 100% aircraft-grade aluminum and neoprene case for 3G iPods featuring access to iPod ports and the ‘Hold switch’. The flip lid design also enables the case to act as a desktop stand.     ProClip expands line of auto mounts for iPods

    Today ProClip announced that it has released models for 20GB and 40GB iPods. “ProClip mounting brackets are clip-on devices, that attach to the car or truck’s dashboard or console, and can be self-installed in seconds.     Piel Frama releases new iPod case

    picPiel Frama, makers of fine leather cases based in the south of Spain has released a new case for 30GB/40GB iPods. The Piel Frama case features a flip-lid design with two interior credit card slots, one money slot, soft leather lining, ABS insert (rigid case), access to all iPod functions, snap closure, detachable swivel belt clip and comes in three colors; black, tan and black/tan.
