Pre-Order XtremeMac Deluxe for 3G iPods

pic XtremeMac has updated their website with information and photos about its new Deluxe iPod case for 3G iPods. The case has a patent pending design feature where the iPod is held in place without anything in the front covering the face of iPod. It also features a large access hole for the headphone/remote ports, and the front flap with Velcro closure can be opened without having to unplug the cable. The Deluxe case comes in Black Leather or Camel Tweed and is available for pre-order at $29.95 (includes belt clip). We asked XtremeMac when the case would ship and the reply was, “Most likely in 2 weeks, but I should know an exact date by tomorrow.” We’ll post an update if and when the ship date is confirmed.

10% off iPods at Target.com

Dealmac: Target.com sells Apple’s iPod MP3 players, as a reader found. Several 10% off coupons are available at Target.com, resulting in the lowest available prices on current-generation iPods. The iPod 15GB costs $359.99 after discount, while the iPod 30GB costs $449.99 after discount.
Shipping adds about $7, and sales tax may reduces most of the savings from the coupon.

Amazon: 15 and 30GB iPods at reduced prices

Amazon.com has reduced prices on iPods; 30GB iPod for $474.05 and the 15GB iPod for $379.05. Just add to cart and the reduced price shows up. Not the cheapest price seen but better than the usual $499/$399.

iPod 15GB for $370 and $380

Dealmac: Although we’ve seen much lower prices, readers recommend two ways to get the Apple iPod 15GB MP3 player for less than its $400 list price. Dell Home sells the iPod 15GB for $399.99. Add anything at all to your cart and apply coupon code “32F3C9A87986” for a $369.99 price (not including the additional item). Or, BestBuy.com sells the iPod 15GB for $379.99. Either way, shipping is free. Dell’s coupon ends today.

Philadelphia Inquirer: Industry could embrace, not fight, technology

  • August 10, 2003
  • iPod,

“That’s only a beginning. Below are a few ideas that move in the same direction. Born in a rash moment of gadget dreaming, some are wildly impractical, and others might be reality already.[...]

iPod groovebox. Your basic drum machine is a box with pads on it that trigger different sounds: You push pad A and get a booming kick drum, pad B gives you a cymbal, and so on. The iPod MP3 player comes with a rabbit’s-foot-size remote control device that has four buttons on it, controlling Play, Stop, Fast Forward and Rewind. What would happen if those four buttons triggered sounds instead of transport controls?”

Using a USB 1.1 Connection with 3G iPod

  • August 7, 2003
  • iPod,

AppleCare KnowledgeBase Document:

“Some Windows-compatible computers may be able to connect to iPod (with Dock Connector) using a USB 1.1 connection, but this is not a recommended configuration. [...]

You may be able to connect an iPod (with Dock Connector) model to a Windows-compatible computer using a USB 1.1 connection, but this is not recommended because the connection is too slow to synchronize music. For best performance, connect iPod to your computer using USB 2.0 or FireWire. You may need to purchase and install a USB 2.0 or FireWire card to do this.”

How BuyMusic really makes their money

BuyMusic’s ads are served by the infamous DoubleClick network.  In the past, Buy.com’s profit philosophy was to underprice products and make up for the loss in profits by advertising, and it’s very likely BuyMusic.com is doing the same thing.  The site’s privacy policy says that BuyMusic.com itself will not collect IP addresses and other personal information.  But that doesn’t keep them from doing so in a roundabout way:

“We use a third party to provide digital music download samples for our customers.  That service collects your IP address, browser type, ISP, platform, and a date/time stamp.”

The excerpt means that “third party” will sell your info (like the songs you’ve listed to) to many other third parties.  In essence, you buy one James Taylor CD, you’ll see James Taylor merchandise everywhere you go on the internet.

Creative CEO says Zen NX “better looking” than iPod

  • August 7, 2003
  • iPod,

At a press briefing, Creative’s CEO, Sim Wong Hoo said the Nomad Zen NX is “better looking” than the iPod. Am I the only one here who thinks that they copied the iPod’s design?

“Unveiling the company’s new strategy yesterday at a briefing on its financial results, Mr Sim said it has successfully made inroads into the PDE market with its Nomad line of MP3 players.

Holding up one of its latest models - the Nomad Jukebox Zen - he proudly declared the slim, silver aluminium pocket-sized device was ‘better looking’ than rival Apple Computer’s pert but pricier iPod.”
