Apple’s 1GB iPod shuffle is back in stock at the online Apple Store after being sold out through the holiday season. Apple posted a note on the store in mid-December that read: “Sold out for holiday. Expected availability mid-January.â€? This note led to much speculation that Apple was planning to introduce an updated iPod shuffle later this month. The 1GB shuffle ships in 3-5 days from the Apple Store, while the 512MB shuffle ships within 24 hours, according to Apple.

I was actually hoping for a new shuffle with a tiny screen. I love my nano, but if they made the shuffle skinnier with a small screen, I’d sell my nano for it.

5 days from now is Tuesday and Jobs keynote at MWSF. So it still could be new. The confirmation here is that there will be a 1GB player that is still called a Shuffle, and cost no more than $129.

That doesn’t make much sense. Two 1GB shuffle models competing against each other????
Not to mention the same size capacity and price… I can’t see that happenning. The original shuffle would have to be discontinued or the new shuffle will have to be limited in some way for apple to believe that they could still sell the original 2gb shuffle.
A shuffle with a screen would be nice, but I can’t see it happenning now. :(

A shuffle w/ a screen is a nano. How can people be so dumb to even suggest the shuffle get a screen?
The whole point of a shuffle not having a screen is increased durabilty, decreased price, weight and super simple function. Also,if you need a 30 song gym mix or jog mix you don’t/shouldn’t need a screen anyway. The shuffle is more ‘custom radio station w/o the commericals’ then full fledged mp3 player.
If Apple makes a shuffle w/ a screen it will be a 1gb nano. Apple should keep it simple.
1gb shuffle in a smaller, smoother form factor for $99. The shuffle shouldn’t go away because of it’s use/value as a thumb drive. I also want one as a companion to my 5G and I do not want a nano as I need a 1GB flash drive adn the nano has durability issues.

Well ,the shuffles may not be competing with nano’s. Perhaps Apple has sold enough nano’s to increase capacity, so now they can make 2GB shuffles, and then 4 (or 6) and 6 (or 8)GB nano’s.
Not overly likely, but you can hope can’t you?!

There arn’t any 1gb shuffles available on the uk online apple store, so maybe they had a batch left they needed to shift and are doing so in america.

I’ve seen it said here and other places that a shuffle with a screen is a nano, not if it’s a non color screen with out any photo capabilities, right?
Anyway, I’m thinking about just getting a nano anyhow so I want have my 5G in tow everywhere I go.

I can’t be specific, but I have inside info - and trust me - there will be something new. So everyone relax… don’t buy anything until after Tuesday.
