Nike has announced that Nike+iPod runners have now logged over 22 million miles, making Nikeplus.com the “world’s largest online running destination.” New website functionality coming later this summer includes a new challenge feature that will provide users with more options and customization tools, as well as new “virtual” marathons. “Nike+ is changing the running experience. It’s a great motivational tool to get people out for a run. It’s attracting and connecting thousands of new runners each day, with members from more than 160 countries,” said Trevor Edwards, Nike’s Vice President of Global Brand and Category Management. The Nike+iPod system, introduced in July 2006, allows users to track time, distance, calories burned, pace, and other data through their iPod nanos, and on Nikeplus.com.

I have been a fan of Nike products, but their reluctance to pull products associated with Michael Vick from their shelves has changed my opinion of them.

The motivational part of the Nike+ system is definitely there. I just recently bought another adapter because I lost the first one. They have definitely added more features to the website. I especially like the challenges. They help you stay focused on running. You aren’t just running for you, you are running with other people towards a common goal.
My only hope is that they start releasing some of the other products we have spied here on iLounge, the watches in particular. Being able to control the Nike+ system through a wristwatch would be much easier along with being able to see details without having to push the center button.

Another time Dvorak was wrong. (He thought nike + was dumb). I’ve had mine for 11 months now and I can tell you its a great motivational tool. There have been a few times i got outside to run just so I wouldn’t miss a goal I set up at Nike.com. And working out while listening to some podcasts and new music is almost entertainment. Nike has done an ok job of continuing to improve their website and accesories and I’m looking forward to seeing more. I haven’t heard anyone complaining that nike + doesn’t work on the iphone but I think that should be one of their plans.
