2G iPod shuffle now shipping
Meeting its self-imposed October deadline, Apple has begun shipping its new second-generation iPod shuffle. A number of customers who pre-ordered the tiny device, which was announced last month at a special event, began receiving shipping notices over the weekend. iLounge’s package tracking number shows that the shuffle is shipping directly from Apple’s manufacturing partners in China, and that it is expected to arrive before the end of the week. As of this morning, Apple retail stores still did not have any 2G shuffles in stock, though stores are expected to have them any day.

So, can you get student discounts on these….?

No student discount appears to be available. $79.
The Employee Purchase Program knocks it down a few dollars.

Thank god, 1 day before the end of October, thou. Apple is really taking suspension to the extremes now.

does anyone know if the new shuffle will have the same ability to be used as a removable flash drive? the original shuffle was great for that with it’s USB plug on the bottom.

Will it have the same (or better) sound quality that distanced the original from every other iPod?

Well mines estimated to be delivered by the 1st November the wait is near killing me since my current 1st gen shuffle died on me today :( Two years hard use isnt half bad though.
And no it probably wont be able to act as a removable drive like the first one and no the quality is the same since the internal guts are close to identical internals of the 1st gen shuffle from what i have been told.

With the “settings” tab and “enable disk use” slider in iTunes 7, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to be used as a flash drive just like every other iPod (even my SLVR phone can double as a flash drive). Just be sure you have the shuffle dock with you when you transfer.

Can’t believe my new Shuffle hasn’t arrived after six weeks, but any day now I suppose. As for buying 1st gen Shuffles for parts (mattlabs), you can buy a refurbed 512mb at the apple store online for only $29! I feel like buying another one for old times sake.

OK, I’m thoroughly confused. All I see at the Apple Store are 1GB Shuffles…WHERE are y’all seeing 2GB ones??? I was going to order…love the new form factor…but I don’t see anything on Apple about 2GB Shuffles.

Oooooooh…oops…duh! Thanks for clearing that up for me, Ayala! I’m hunting all over the place for this 2GB Shuffle…even called Apple! LOL! I’ve gotten burned so many times buying Apple stuff a week before they came out with a big change…was thinking maybe I should wait. I love my regular size iPod but can’t resist the baby one…much easier to carry around and not so much worry about loosing it. Thanks again!

I’m in Australia. I ordered mine on the day it was announced. I got the shipping notice today. They estimate that it will arrive at my house on 7 Nov. That’s 4 days more than the original estimate, however, the Australian Apple Store now says a 2-day lead time. Given that I’m in Sydney and all stock goes through Sydney, I should get it before the weekend. I just can’t wait!

Hi. Did anyone here order from Amazon? I pre-ordered two weeks ago and that site still says that the Shuffles aren’t in stock yet. Now I’m wondering if I should just cancel my order and buy from the Apple store.

Got mine today—my very first iPod. Nifty little critter; better use of space than my old mp3 player.
