Apple has indicated that it is already sold out of some iPhone 5s models, citing “incredible” demand for the new device, according to report this morning by AllThingsD. Although Apple typically does not provide specific sales information until after the initial launch weekend, it has revealed that it many iPhone 5S models are already in limited supply at some stores.

iLounge’s editors have noted that the gold iPhone 5s seems to have been in extremely limited supply in the first place, with some Apple Stores receiving few to no units in their initial shipments at all. By comparison, the space grey colour still seems to be quite widely available, as are supplies of the iPhone 5c.

Since at my local Apple store, they had run out of iPhone 5S Gold by the 23rd person in the queue, I’d say the “shortage” is deliberate policy. What’s more other phone retailers are complaining while they have crates of the 5c they cannot sell in every colour, they have only a small number of slate-grey handsets and no silver or gold ones at all.
Apple either wrongly predicted that everybody would plump for the 5c (or buy one if a 5s wasn’t available), or are trying to over-hype the phone by making them hard to get.
