Apple, 7-Eleven launch Slurpee iTunes sweepstakes
Apple and 7-Eleven have kicked off a new promotion to give away 8 million songs from the iTunes Music Store. According to the official rules, specially-marked 32 oz. Slurpee fountain cups at participating 7-Eleven locations will have a 12-digit alphanumeric code redeemable for one free song from the iTunes Music Store. It appears every cup is a winner.
Strangely, Apple said that the “Slurpee Summer Prize Fest” began on May 23, despite no word from the company or our readers in the more than two weeks since, hinting that these cups have yet to reach stores. The Slurpee sweepstakes, which should be noted is co-sponsored by Coca-Cola, ends on July 31, 2005. Apple said free song codes must be redeemed by August 31, 2005. The maximum number of valid codes per person that can be redeemed is 10 per day and 200 total during the promotion.

That would be great if I didn’t live smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt. The “God Squad” got rid of the last 7-Eleven nearly 20 years ago.

It dos appear that all cups have codes. With the heat here in the Midwest… I’ve gotten a few now. Its the best way to cool off…. brain freeze and free tunes.

Has anyone heard a peep out of Apple on how many songs have been given away on the last Pepsi giveaway? The distribution by Pepsi here in Houston just flat out sucked. The local Pepsi reps didn’t even realize that a promotion was in progress. I had the distribution drivers tell they weren’t allowed to deliver any game bottles until they ran out of the regular bottles. The first promotion in 2004 sucked and the one in 2005 seemed even worse. I hope the people with a 7-11 have a better result.

Wonder if they’ll let you fill up a slurpee cup with a fountain drink. And how many people will be drinking 10 slurpees a day? A slurpee isn’t the same thing as a 20oz bottle where you can stock up and drink at anytime. I was drinking about 2 20oz Dews a day during the Pepsi promo. I don’t think I’ll be doing very many of these. Pepsi has to be a little upset that Coke is a co-sponsor though.
Pretty soon maybe anything you buy will have an iTunes code on it. Now that would be cool. Just do your weekly grocery shopping and end up with 125 songs.

Yeah, but <e>every</i> 32oz Slurpee cup has a free song on it, vs. 1 in 3 for the 20oz Pepsi promo. The odds are so much better for Slurpees. Plus, Slurpees are so much better than Pepsi. It’s a win-win!
But there aren’t any in Atlanta, GA. Crap!

I was on iTines earlier this week and did some hunting and found out the promotion and all the details. I went to 7-11 at lunch and they had not heard of the promotion at all. I was kind of ticked until I saw they had one of the cups left over from the Star Wars promotion, and I got that. So it was kind of a win for me, but no song darnit! That will be tonight (hopefully)

These have been out for at least two weeks at the local 7-11s. I’ve mistakenly thrown away at least two. But I have 3 to cash in right now. It ends up being like 46 cents for a 32oz slurpee—pretty cool.

Just a thought…
Why does Apple always put their free songs on the most unhealthy items?? Pepsi? Slurpees? Hundreds of grams of sugar pulsing through your veins for free music. “I’ve got a ton of free iTunes but now I’m a diabetic and I’m losing all my teeth.” The money that you save on iTunes will go to your dentist in the long run.

I went to a 7-11 in downtown Chicago on my way home from work yesterday and they had all the signs up, but didn’t know what I was talking about. This morning I went in and they had the cups. The guy told me they came in last night, so they should be out and about here relatively quickly. I know I will be drinking about 2 a day for the next few months, just replace my blood with slurpee. I am a slut for free iTunes. I will freely admit it.

matt928347 has a good point. How about putting iTunes codes on something healthy?? Maybe on fruit (they already have a little sticker with the check-out code on ‘em). The company IS call “Apple”, after all. “An apple a day keeps the doctor away… and fills up your iPod!!” That would be a different kind of promotion with a lot of upside for both Apple and iTMS users as well.

I don’t think its Apple that puts the free songs on certain products. Rather, it’s the company of those junk food products that put them on their own products. It’s them that put the free songs on their junk food products.
