Belkin tomorrow will announce the TuneSync, a new iPod accessory that combines a dock for syncing/charging your iPod and a five-port USB 2.0 hub.
Featuring a slim profile and iPod-matching white exterior, the TuneSync lets you connect up to five USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 devices such as a printer, scanner or external hard drive. It has LEDs that monitor your device activity for master power status and port activity, as well as a stereo-out jack to connect your iPod to a home stereo or powered speakers.
Belkin’s TuneSync will be available in November for $59.99.

Ah, a useful idea - a dock that does more than just dock.
I’m buying one. Probably.

cool idea, I think a firewire/USB2/1 hub would be cooler

A dock finally worth what they’re asking for. I feel bad for whoever bought the apple iPod dock. I agree, a firewire port would have been vey useful.

I third the FW/USB idea.
Would be very useful to have at least one FW port but even as it is it’s decent

To have both FW and USB, the hub would have to connect to the PC using both connectors…
Also, too pricey and lacks the SVID connector that iPod photo dock includes.

USB 2.0 capacity is indeed good, but added FireWire serviceability is that much better regardless of the additional cable.
But I tend to agree…$60 is a bit much for what in essence is an overblown connectivity port.

Any word on whether or not it’s compatible w/ 3G iPods as well?

This is basicly a white version of the darker Belkin Economy HUB with the top two USB ports replaced with a iPod jack.
For amount of money they have invested in “innovation” it seems like their products are just “reinventions” or copy cats of previous Apple products.
Plus the old product costs $25, this one costs $60.

I do agree on both points that adding FireWire and lowering the price would be ideal.
I just don’t get how this is a copy cat of previous Apple products unless Apple invited USB hubs? What Belkin products are you referring to that are copy cats or “reinventions” of previous Apple products?

does this dock allow me to connect my fw+usb cable?

Is the dock fit exactly to the iPod or is there room for a pod with a iSkin on?

FANTASTIC idea for those with the Mac Minis that have a measly two USB ports! I would buy one for my dad’s computer, maybe then he’ll use his iPod more often

Honestly, I’m not too pleased about this whole USB 2.0 + iPod thing. As someone who has always used them with a firewire connection (USB 2.0 seems slower in comparison), this product lacks a major feature to me. I REALLY wish firewire had caught on.

Hi guys. Just a word of caution. There seems to be USB issues with the current iPods. If you go to: http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?13@@.68b35181/55, you will what I am talking about.

*Yawn* Where’s the FireWire, where’s the video for photo capable iPods, why does the line-out have to be on the side part, who in the world needs a mini-USB port, why does this thing look so terribly roundish… countless questions for a product that would basically be a good idea. Give it three FireWire ports, three USB2, line-out + S-Video & make it look more Mac mini, then we’re talking.

Nice.
Not to mention that USB and iPods are not a good mix at the moment.
