AAC at 128kbps public listening test

Roberto Amorim of Rarewares.com is conducting a public test to find out which encoder is best at encoding AAC at 128Kbps CBR. Everyone is welcomed to particpate.

I tried AAC encoding at several speeds using Apple’s iTunes 4.0.1 and found that setting it to 192kbps with 48KHz produces very nice sounding music files which are smaller in file size than the alt-extreme setting I used before with a LAME encoder…

using itunes, i encoded the same track in mp3 and aac at 128, 160, and 192. the mp3 was actually set at vbr so it’s kind of cheating and uses only those bitrates as lower bounds. in any case, i felt the 192 mp3 sounded far superior than everything else.
