Analyst expects Napster to lead in online music market
“‘This is the next major shift in music,’ said Gene Munster, a senior research analyst with US Bancorp Piper Jaffray, an investment bank. He expects Napster to lead the way with a 30 percent share of the online music market and Apple, with a combination of Macintosh and Windows users, in second, with 20 percent. He does not own stock in either company, but his firm has sought banking business with them.”

Don’t know if I agree with that. I think many of the folks who made Napster an original hit are the same ones who will continue dl’ing their music for free on P2P networks. I’ll be surprised if a lot of them return to Napster and start paying for music they can otherwise get free from Kaaza & co.

Apple second to Napster? Where’s he magically pulling these numbers from?
Apple, who’s iPod is the number one selling portable mp3 device, fails to support WMA files…the very same file types Napster will be offering. How many people will continue to download with Napster when they discover they can’t play the song they just purchased on their iPod?

Of course I’ll return to Napster..as if! Return to the same organization that locked my acct at Metallica’s request? When I signed up AFTER that whole debacle?
I had to “sign” an online “affidavit” to return to usability. Guilty until proven innocent. Even Dr. Dre, one of the other big “Kill Napster” figures supports the iTMS. Of course, you can’t find Metallica on iTMS. Shame..

As if… ok…
This Napster is the old Napster in name only. If people won’t return to Napster purely because of Metallica, sorry, but you’re not thinking clearly.
However, if you do go back to Napster and own an iPod, you’re also not thinking clearly. Who wants to use wma? It’s easily the least used and least effective format when compared with VBR and AAC.
