Analyst says iPod leads market “because it is superior to competitors”
“Rob Enderle, consumer electronics analyst at The Enderle Group, says Apple has dominated the MP3 player market because its product is superior to competitors’, and Apple ‘outspent everyone else on marketing 10 to one.’
Companies such as Dell, Creative Technology, Rio and Virgin have announced new MP3 products aimed at taking business from Apple with lower prices and more storage. Enderle says Apple’s real test ‘is going to be in the next two months. None of the new products are as good as the iPod, but collectively, they could start to eat at Apple’s market share,’ he says.”

No other player can beat the iPod in these areas:
- Best Interface
- Best Software
- Best Reputation/Quality
- Most 3rd Party Peripherals
- The Most Wanted
- The Trendsetter/Coolest

I agree with others about the quality and the ease of software. I have used plenty of others and nothing compares to the 3G touch pads and the ease of software. Its definately the Rolls Royce of MP3 players even without all the bells and whistles that other MP3 players have these days.

I have a 3G iPod 40G, but I really think my friend’s iRiver 40G is superior. But of course I’d never tell him that!

As an admittedly biased 4thG owner, I’ll say that I didn’t get the 3rdG model because there were users who complained that the buttons were too delicate. They were membranes of plastic that were touch-sensitive.
I like the 4thG’s more durable, solid feel. Though the gray takes some getting used to, it’s simpler, and feels great. I couldn’t imagine the scroll wheel wearing out anytime soon.
There’s no need for backlighting because of the buttons being on the wheel. Then again, one could argue the 3rdG didn’t need backlighting on the buttons as long as you memorized the position.

If Mr. Enderle says that the iPod’s success is due to its superiority, Mac fans could argue that isn’t true. Windows sells more than Mac OS, and it isn’t better.
iPod is more successful for marketing reasons. Macs are less successful for marketing reasons. Apple never kept up with Microsoft when their Windows 95 marketing campaign was running on all cylinders. Sure Apple had nothing but vaporware Copland lies at the time. But I haven’t seen a single television ad for Mac OS X. Maybe Apple should invest as much marketing time with Macs as they do iPod.

there can be no doubt that sony will win the market in the end, its the biggest consumer electronics company in the world just look at ps2+vcr’s they cames from behind +dominated. Also apple have history of throwing their lead away(remember that microsoft was 2nd to apple!!)
