Apple has officially announced a special event for Oct. 23, 2012, likely to introduce the iPad mini. Previously rumored invites have been sent out to select members of the press, with the tag line, “We’ve got a little more to show you.”

The event will be held at 10:00am Pacific Time in San Jose at the California Theatre, originally known as the Fox Theatre. While the majority of Apple special events have been held at San Francisco’s Moscone Center or Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, with others at Apple’s corporate campus Town Hall, the California Theatre was notably used for the 2004 introduction of the U2 iPod, iPod photo, and iPod Socks accessories.

The iPad mini will not be innovative in any way except it will allow for a more comfortable grip and better portability. However, it will be very successful. And it will be extraordinarily successful if the price is right.

a replaceable battery, removable storage and a pen slot with pen would be nice (oh I forgot, that was the Message Pad…....). It’s funny, what goes around, comes around. Maybe Sculley WAS the Apple visionary on notepads….

I can see it being very suitable to certain business applications, and use in autos, but I don’t see it being suitable for web content.

This can be considered as a confirmed announcement as it is made by Apple. This is because there were many rumors about the launch of the same iPad Mini. Some reported that the iPad Mini is going to be launched on 10th Oct while rumors announced its arrival on 17th along with the MacBook Pro. And now finally Apple announces the day of its launch i.e. 23rd Oct. Am eagerly awaiting for it. Hope you guys are equally excited.

If Apple does in fact release an updated iPad tomorrow (in addition to the iPad Mini), I will be extremely disappointed. The “New iPad” as they have oddly named it, has a bad battery and poor WiFi connectivity, among other issues. I feel like I purchased a very expensive beta device that they are now fixing mere months later.
