Apple has announced a “One More Thing” event on October 12, 2005, at the same California Theatre venue in San Jose where the iPod photo and U2 Special Edition iPod were announced last year. The event, promoted to select media, will begin at 10:00am Pacific, and is named after the famed oratory trick of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who uses the phrase as a prelude to a bombshell announcement at the close of a keynote speech. As contrasted with the blue jeans image used to tease the announcement of the iPod nano, the One More Thing event is promoted with a red theater-like curtain. iLounge will be on hand to provide coverage of the day’s announcements, which will come one day after the company publicly discloses its financial results on October 11.

In other words, if I don’t see Steve Jobs watching the ‘Vogue’ video on his iPod next Wednesday I’ll eat my hat.

Hey, taxman75, you have a nice poit there: “but who better to front a (mass-public) portable music video player than Madonna?”

I think that it wold be nice, but I just can’t imagine any madonna’s Ipod - How wold it be? It cant be that feminine that only gils wold buy it!

Do you think they will do a U2 “very spatial” edition to U2 videos and music?

One thing that they realy needs to change is the batterie to be changeble. All this new changes, like size, capacity size, video playback, new connections ... are very nice but I think that if they are starting to make Ipods so small, so it is possible to make a change addding a way to change the batteies.

A resonable prediction:
A limited Video feature (perhaps iTunes proprietaty) added to a slightly smaller iPod (new Toshiba HD) with the current screen size but a nano sized click wheel available in 40 and 80GB sizes @ $299 and $399. Maybe some other firmware goodies, but no BlueTooth or gapless playback.

Here’s why:
Gives the Nano some headroom as a different sort of device (what the shuffle was supposed to be), buys some time to get full video (ripped DVD) capabilities up and running, and is just different enough to be worthy of a 5G designation- all just in time for the holiday shopping season.

Fantasy speculation:
iMac moving towards a media center function/ iPod uber-dock.  Think of iMac as a game/music/video Tivo for the iPod (G6+).

I’d absolutely love an iPDA. Is it possible to get 40+GB HDD’s into a smallish PDA with FULL PDA capabilities? I mean if I could have a combo PDA+iPod with at least 12 hrs battery, I’d die. That is I think, the ultimate iPod. And it would in a sense be a videopod, since most PDA’s out today have a video playback function. Here’s hoping.

One thing is do we even know if this is iPod related?  Considering how close it is to the music event they had last month it could be a computer thing.

On possibility is maybe they’re going to release the first generation of Mactel machines.

Apple is going to announce that they finally have worked out ALL the bugs from iTunes 5.0 and will provide a firmware update so that ALL iPods can view the song lyrics when loaded. ONLY THEN will I be impressed with ANYTHING Steve Jobs would announce.  The Nano was anything but impressive.  Less impressive was the roll-out of the new iTunes.

Vpod sounds nice
iPDA sounds better,
  Radios would be darling
      Lyrics as well

maybe something as simple as finding Album Art For you. Now THAT’S an advancement.

Like this?

Apparently, the Palm Lifedrive sucks. And waiting for the disk to spin up blows.

I’m with slump. Any of you expecting a video iPod will be SORELY DISAPPOINTED. If you do your research, here is what will be launched - speed bump revisions to the G5 and powerbook lines, including higher definition screens for their portables. There WILL be a new ipod launched, but not a video one. Most likely 80 gig, with smaller size, and one different color choice - as well as more software features as in the Nano. THINK ABOUT IT FOLKS - Apple sees REAAAALLY good margins with the Nano, Christmas is coming up, and Apple will NOT do anything to hurt Nano sales, which a video iPod could/would do. As well, the infrastructure for delivering video content is not solid yet. YES a video iPod is in the works, but it WILL NOT come out this year. Too much is riding on the Nano.

It will be a video iPod, but not for movies (no way he’d get past the licensing issues at present and you can’t watch a 2” screen for hours on end without going blind.

It will just be for music videos which will be sold through the iTunes website (probably at $5 a pop if the recod companies have their way).

“tastes great!”, “less filling!”, “tastes great!”, “less fiiling!”...
If Jobs reads these things, he’s gotta be laughing his head off by now…
