Apple announces Sept. 5 Special Event

With a Cover Flow-themed widescreen graphic for its invitation, Apple has invited selected members of the media to a September 5, 2007 “Special Event” in San Francisco, California. The graphic, titled “The beat goes on.”, shows a silhouetted iTunes dancer holding a fifth-generation iPod in hand alongside six album covers. As with other major iPod- and iTunes-themed events, the Moscone Center has been selected as the venue, suggesting the need for greater seating capacity than the smaller Mac- and iPod accessory events Apple has staged in months and years past. iLounge editors will be on site to cover the Event live.

Thats not a Beatles cover, its a Beastie Boys Cover. Look closely, the fourth letter is an “s.” It’s the album “The Mix Up.” See link below.

Hate to break it to you, but there are *zero* Beatles album covers in the above image—from left to right they are:
Keane, Under The Iron Sea
The Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
Beastie Boys, The Mix-Up
Mika, Life In Cartoon Motion
Jack Johnson, In Between Dreams
Sonic Youth, Rather Ripped
And what’s the attraction to getting the Beatles in the iTS? Who would really buy them there? People too lazy to rip their own discs? People willing to shell out a second time for the same product they already own? What music fan has been waiting desperately for the Beatles to go digital before adding their albums to their collection? We won’t see the Beatles in the iTS until the albums are properly remastered & released into stores, and I wouldn’t hold my breath for that if I were you…

Chances are when either HD-DVD or Blu-ray Discs win out, every movie studio will re-release in that format. They did that with VHS to DVD and Cassette tape to CD.
Would I want Lord of the Rings in HiDef?
The answer is probably the same for the people wanting Beatles on iTunes.
It’s like when people waited for their favorite album to be released on CD.
Besides, it doesn’t bother me what someone wants so I have no reason to put down something they view as a good and positive thing. Everyone should expect the same courtesy.

Please say this means new, widescreen iPods!

What’s interesting is that “Mango” THOUGHT that they all looked like Beatles album covers. Even though they are not Beatles albums, every single one does have that flavor, so perhaps there is something to this suggestion.
The Beatles are on… err I mean, The Beat Goes On.
See how easy it is. Genious, really!

There’s something curious about this invitation. Unless the image was edited, notice how the upper corner are rounded, and the lower corners are square.
I’m guessing no full-screen iPods yet.

The cover with the silhouette kind of looks like the background of the Beatles’ Love CD.

or Vanilla Fudge. They also had an album called The Beat Goes On!. Yes it was a mega ongoing epic cover version of Sonny Bono’s song…
Now that is scary!

Oh, it’s iPods, that’s for sure. The time of year is right, the positioning of the invite is right. iPod Season is upon us!

Part of the announcement is the new, oh-so-hideous 4x3 format Nano. ‘Tis a sad day in iLand.

it would seem based on the ad alone that the announcement will pertain to a new generation ipod that will incorporate some of the iphone’s features, namely a wider screen, the cover flow feature and probably a touch screen. what was once a cousin to the iphone is now more like a sibling.

I’d say this is obviously for a new product. “Goes on” refers to one that’s already created and is “going on”. Sounds like new iPods.

although the iPod in the hand of the silhouette is clearly a screen/clickwheel combo. I’m really hoping for a new, widescreen, touchscreen iPod, but, really, who knows ...
