Apple announces Sept. 5 Special Event

With a Cover Flow-themed widescreen graphic for its invitation, Apple has invited selected members of the media to a September 5, 2007 “Special Event” in San Francisco, California. The graphic, titled “The beat goes on.”, shows a silhouetted iTunes dancer holding a fifth-generation iPod in hand alongside six album covers. As with other major iPod- and iTunes-themed events, the Moscone Center has been selected as the venue, suggesting the need for greater seating capacity than the smaller Mac- and iPod accessory events Apple has staged in months and years past. iLounge editors will be on site to cover the Event live.

you know, it could just be that “the beat goes on” is a popular music slogan and they are using it in reference to the continuation of ipods… nothing secret or hidden about it

It’s very easy. George was asked about a beatles reunion. His answer:
George: As far as I’m concerned, there won’t be a beatles reunion as long as John Lennon remains dead.
I tell you what: Apple will show us John Lennon tomorrow: Alive!

Ok… I know that we’ll have the answer in less than 24 hours, but the biggest question for me is the storage capacity : why on earth would they release an iPod 6G with 16gb (or 32 gb) of flash memory ?
I know that part of the answer lies in the fact that flash memory consumes less power that hard drives, therefore battery life will be extended, especially when viewing videos… but if I want to see lots of videos and listen to lots of music, wouldn’t it be logical to have a BIGGER storage capacity as well ?

I think folks are underestimating just how many ipod owners don’t own iphones (nor will they likely buy one anytime soon - and in my case never as long as tied to at&t).
I would love an ipod that is regarded as an iphone without the phone…

A metronome program will be a new, revolutionary addition to the full-faced iPod who’s screen will also flash in time.

I was just about to buy the Archos 605 wifi that I was waiting to come out on Sept 1, then I saw news about this, man I can wait even longer for this with touch screen and everything the Iphone has but the phone. That works for me.
