Apple exec: No plans for 60GB iPod. Period.
Apple’s comments come some weeks after Toshiba publicly announced that it was already supplying Apple with hundreds of thousands of 60 gigabyte, 1.8” drives per month, an announcement which was subsequently said to have angered otherwise secretive Apple executives. Whether these drives will be used in future music-centered iPods, or in other devices, is currently unknown.

Here’s my reply to Apple:
The RIo Karma will be coming soon in 60GB flavors. You just gave me a reason to switch from a player that I love to death.
Great job, Apple!

So, does anyone have any info or speculation about the rumors that the 4G iPod would have a color screen and could display photos? I was going to hold out until then, but with yesterday’s announcement, it might be another year until the color display model is released, if there was any truth to the rumor in the first place. Any thoughts?

I’m a beta tester for Apple. I have an early prototype of the 60 GB iPod. I shouldn’t really be saying anything but it’s hard for me to keep a secret. The 60 GB iPod is slightly thicker than my 40 GB iPod and a little heavier. The buttons have been integrated into the scroll wheel like the iPod Mini and the new 4th generation 20 & 40 GB iPods. The display is bigger. No indication when it will be displayed.

Personally I think they are going to announce the 60GB after xmas. They may as well sell out their stock of 40GB’s for xmas, then in January announce the 60GB one so they can get a bunch of post xmas sales which wouldn’t be there if they announce the 60 earlier than that.

Never believe anything until it’s officially denied. So now it has, the 60gb iPod will probably be in the shops in a few months!

“Period”? Why would anyone title this blurb of weaselspeak, which contains no information one way or the other about the likelihood of a 60GB ipod being developed, as if it were some pronouncement of finality?

‘We have no plans in regard to *announcing* 60-gigabyte models,’ Joswiak said. Bet your bottom dollar, it’s coming. This guy hit the nail on the head:

I nedd a 60GB iPod (and have for a while now). I know there are others out there like me. Apple better do something quick or they will lose customers to the competition. Apple knows this as well as anyone else. There will be a 60GB iPod!

Those drives would be too slow for a Powerbook or any other computer… has to be for an iPod…
