Apple hints at new iPod announcement, sees ‘staggering’ nano demand

During Apple’s fourth quarter conference call with analysts and press Tuesday, a senior Apple executive said that the final phase of a complete iPod lineup revamp would be revealed before the holiday shopping season, hinting that full-size iPods would soon receive a makeover and new features—possibly at tomorrow’s special event in San Jose, California.

While discussing the iPod family and the new iPod nano, which just replaced the iPod mini, Tim Cook, Apple’s executive vice president of worldwide sales and operations, said that his company had some “very innovative new products that we have yet to introduce” for the holiday season. Cook noted that Apple began working on “revolutionary” new versions of its iPods more than a year ago, and that last quarter was the final quarter for the older models.

Also during the conference call, Cook said that Apple sold over 1 million iPod nanos in the first 17 days of the product’s availability (before the fourth quarter ended), and that the company is seeing “staggering” demand and an “enormous backlog” for the tiny device.

I hope they make enough ipod nano’s for all of the christmas shoppers. Because that will probably be the hottest item this year.

Revolutionary?  According to Thinksecret, it’s just going to be a bump in hard drive, cut in physical size, color revamp and that’s it.  If the 5G or vPod comes out tomorrow, I’ll truly be impressed.  But, if it’s just a glorified 4G, I honestly couldn’t care less.

Now I wouldn’t go as far to say that David. When ever Apple states that it has something revolutionary, they pull through. Think of the orginial ipod, they planned on making a hard drive based mp3 player to revolutionize music players, and in fact, it did.

I agree, Thinksecrets prediction does’nt sound anything like “Revolutionary”. Maybe there will be a video iPod after all.

I’m definately listening.  Will be close to the computron tomorrow… see what happens…

judging from the nano, i may wait about 1 month to see what it’s weakest point is, but my 20GB 3G is out of space and I’ve always said I’d consider upgrading at everyother generation…

so, apple’s got my attention…

Thinksecret changed there mind?

Well I hope this makeover for full-sized iPods does indeed happen tomorrow and not in, say, November… I’m due for an iPod upgrade (from my current monochrome 4g iPod). I don’t want to wait another month.

Im so psyched about tommorow…anyone know what time the announcement is supposed to be made?

perhaps the iPod would sport a functionality such as an in-built camera like pic phones? the techology is there for implementing this feature at a very good resolution.

incidentally, over the last few months i have been saving my joke email video’s that seem to arrive each day from mates onto my hard drive so that at some point in the future i can drop these onto a portable device and to show to my many “unconnected” mates who aren’t broadband enabled and hence have missed out on the many funny things that are doing the rounds.

The iTunes Music store hasn’t refreshed for this week, so I am sure the new iPod(s) will also mean a new iTMS feature.

Apple still hasn’t updated the Music Store with the whole New Music Tuesday thing, so maybe they’re getting ready to revamp it with some more video.  Usually the new releases are up early Tuesday morning.

Think Secret doesn’t know any more than anybody else does about what’s coming tomorrow.  They’re just trying to cover all the bases so they’ll think they look good no matter what happens.  It’s rather silly and pathetic really.  Oh well, we’ll all know what Apple really has up their sleeve in less than 18 hours now.

Think Secret USED to be 100% correct, but since they got sued by Apple about a year ago their sources have CLEARLY dried up and now they no longer have a good track record with inside information.

That said the VIDEO iPod will be a reality tommorow. It will REPLACE the current 4G iPods, there will be no seperate video “line” of iPods. The 5G iPod WILL BE the video iPod. Apple comments at tonights earnings report have all but confirmed this…

Tommorow will be a neat day, I bet the enclosure changes the new iPods will look a bit different.
