Apple intros leather iPod cases

imageIn addition to the iPod Hi-Fi and Intel-based Mac minis, Apple boss Steve Jobs also briefly announced new leather cases for the fifth-generation iPod and iPod nano. The “luxurious” leather case is “made with fine, hand-crafted Italian leather and features a soft and durable interior lining for a secure fit, making it the perfect carrying case for iPod or iPod nano.” The Apple Leather Case is available in 30GB and 60GB sizes for the iPod and one size for the iPod nano. Each is available immediately and sells for $99.

i agree, WTF!
At least Steve knew the “event” was so lame as to not warrant renting space outside and held it inside hq. What a let down. These things should have just appeared in the store and the case, not at all. I guess if you’re worth jillions, a hundred bucks for a piece of xxxx with a logo on it sounds perfectly reasonable. Oooga, Oooga, Oooga, watch the stock dive tomorrow!

“if you haven’t found a nice case with a belt clip for under $99 you haven’t been looking very hard.”

On the contrary.  I have been looking very hard.  Nothing has been perfect for me.  Again, this all comes down to opinion, so thank you for your very condescending statement there.

“Apple continues to insult it;s user base and the eat it up with a spoon. “

How is this an insult?  If you don’t like it, DON’T BUY IT.  What the heck is wrong with you people?

LMAO…All of the speculation of a touchscreen video iPod sex machine and this is what we get? A $100 leather holster, a me-too speaker system, and an Intel-based Mac Mini? They couldn’t have just announced this on the down low? They needed an event? Poor, poor PR move, Apple. People are laughing at you.

Anyone think there will be a “One more thing?”

Incidentally, I think the fanboys are just as much to blame for this amusing turn of events as is Apple. Hype begets hype.

m.sherman, you must be my twin or something. i agree totaly with your comments. If ya dont like it, dont buy it! I looked for a case just like this too for my nano. the price is a little to much though. other than that, keep up the good work, Apple!

If I was to spend $99 on a leather case I’d rather cough that up to a designer case like Burberry or Coach. Sorry Apple but the Apple logo with iPod below isn’t as flashy as the Burberry plad or “C"s of Coach.

The case has a ribbon to make it easy to remove the ipod to look at the screen….but the new remotes fit in the bottom dock connector, which does not seem to be supported by the case; and the nano’s headphone port is on the bottom, so you’d need to pull the nano all the way out to see it’s screen.

Of course, since you’d have to remove the ipod to see it, and you’d want to have some sort of scratch protection for the ipod, you’d have to be able to put a silicone or hard case inside the leather case…and those won’t fit presumably. (Maybe the “InviShield” products would be required.)

I’m really really surprised that Apple put this out.  It just looks thoughtless….and really expensive!

OK this crap has to end.  If you are going to release a product, PLEASE put some thought into it, and make it a fair price. A case not only has to protect but be functional as well.  This case is like an iPod launching device, Pull the strap….Watch your iPod fly into the air, then onto the floor.  Apple’s stock dropped -$2.51 a share today with the release of Apple’s new products.  Apple lost enough money in stock revenue today to give everyone who buys a new iPod a leather case for free, not mention everyone who bought a new nano or iPod(video).  These cases are very inexpensive to produce.

Apple nixed their main product a week or two before holding the event, perhaps in response to Microsoft’s announcement of a same-day showing of new “secret” products. Consider it a shot-fake.

My Agent18 is way better than that and is about 1/5th price ...

I love Apple and their products, but I’m not simply going to run out and buy everything that has their logo on it.  These $99 cases will not sell, not even to the most enthusiastic of Apple fans.  These will end up in the clearance bin at less than half price by Christmas.

ok this is the truth about this case.

its a nice looking case. the leather is really smooth and it looks a lot better than the peece of crap case that came with the ipod. if you can spend a hundred bucks on a sstupid ipod case and you dont mind that you have to take it out of the case everytime you want to hear a new song then this is the case for you.

now for those of us who arent that rich its a waste of money. id rather buy a speaker dock. or like 5 ipod accecories.

the case doesnt work out with the new hi fi dock peice of crap. you cant fit the ipod in the dock without the case off and the way it looks everytime you take the ipod out of the case its going to scrath and there doesnt seem to be any other way to hook them up.

its just really pointless to spend all that money on an ipod case. if you want leather buy the dlo leather case. it might no be as fancy but it will protect the ipod and you can see the screen. connect it to a dock. and you dont have to flip the nano upside down just to listen to music.

my grade if your rich: C

my grade if your and average Joe like me: F

What is wrong with you Apple fanboys? When Apple released the 5G, you guys were just about ready to go down low for Jobs. And now you expect him to please you by releasing unrealistic demands such as 200 GB of storage + Wi-fi + Bluetooth + Touchscreen + Built In Radio + Any other cr@p you can think of + 30+ hours of battery life, but instead he gives you a boombox and a leather case? Face it, there’s no way an iPod can stay slim with all that #### in there. Stop b****ing, if you don’t like, don’t buy it. Just hold your f***ing horses and wait until something you like comes along, because I’m pretty sure at least 75% of you, no matter how much you whine about Papa Jobs, will stick with your iPod.
