Apple: New iPod shuffle still on track for October release

During Apple’s fourth quarter conference call, Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook reaffirmed that the second-generation iPod shuffle would ship to customers and stores before the end of the month.

“We will ship by the end of October,” Cook said, later adding, “We’re excited to get shipments underway in a couple weeks.” Cook said customer reception was excellent and that “demand [for iPods generally] accelerated significantly after the launch,” adding that “it was that acceleration that allowed us to exceed expectations for the quarter.”

Apple introduced the new shuffle at a special event on September 12th. The shuffle, which Apple calls “the world’s smallest digital music player,” features an all-new aluminum design and is roughly half the size of the original shuffle. It offers 1GB of storage and sells for $79.

I had that problem once too Dave, have you tried setting up a smart playlist?  Worked wonders for me, no more 20 minute floyd operas and comedy albums or Zorn.

I would guess a 2 gig is on the way soon since theres only 1 shuffle option now.

i just tried to buy the old shuffle and they don’t even offer them anymore, and now we have to wait HOW LONG?! Waaah; i’m having withdrawal just with one day without.

Totally agree about the autofill; music is seasonal for me, and there are a lot of things i don’t want to hear even though i love them.

what will i do until the shipment?? help!

Jo, you can still buy the old one…

In the online Apple Store scroll down, then on the right there is a big red sign that says “Sale!”

Click that, and then click on the ‘Sale’ tab, and there is the old shuffle…

Thanks Tad, I have created smart playlists, didn’t know they could be used with Autofill.

Still holding out for a 2 gig, Mr. Jobs!
