Apple has told Thompson Financial News that while the iPhone is scheduled to launch in Germany and the UK on Nov. 9, it has “not announced any other country launch dates in Europe.” This statement follows remarks made by France Telecom CEO Didier Lombard that the group has signed a contract with Apple to make Orange the distributor of the iPhone in France and that the device’s French launch would take place “during November.” Prior to this, several press reports had appeared claiming there was a dispute impeding contract talks; also, it was reported that a French law calling for sales of both a locked and unlocked version of the iPhone might pose a challenge for negotiators.

What is now ridiculous is not having the iPhone in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico is a US commonwealth!!!
You can go to any ATT store in Puerto Rico and buy every ATT phone exept the iPhone. Also you can go to any Radioshack, Officemax, or compusa and get all the apple products exept for the iPhone.

Also Puerto Rico is ruled by the FCC.

Well, if they want to sell the iPhone here in Finland, it must by law have 3G built in. Finnish law requires that a subscription service must have 3G, so Apple is in big trouble.

I guess Apple will just have to miss out on the huh-yooge Finnish market until they release a 3G model then. Something tells me that Apple will concentrate on France first.

not only will they not release the iphone in puerto rico or the usvi, but the iphone works in these areas. we have at&t service and you can use the iphone as long as you get a phone number based in the US mainland. they will not allow you to activate the iphone with an area code based in PR or the USVI, how retarded is that?
granted we’d be a small market, but we are a market that will buy the phone, and since we have the AT&T service already you’d think it’d be a no-brainer!
