Apple has released iTunes 8.0.2, the latest version of its digital media management software. According to the release notes, the update addresses a quality issue creating MP3s on some computers, fixes a connectivity issue with the iTunes Store when using some internet proxies with Mac OS X, and improves accessibility with VoiceOver. iTunes 8.0.2 is available now as a free download from itunes.com or via Apple’s Software Update utility.

I wish they would remove those annoying arrows by every song.

Those “annoying arrows” are Apple’s idea of paying for development. Turn off the iTunes store if they bother you so much; they go away then.

Just out of interest, how does one turn off the iTunes store?
Thanks.

The last time I updated my iTunes software (PC on Windows XP…hey, nobody’s perfect), I was rewarded with a pink and grey iTunes interface that is really annoying.
I’ve been told that I can change my PC’s monitor settings to compensate, but I don’t feel that I should have to change the settings for my entire PC just to make iTunes look right. Does anyone know if this update addresses said issue? Thanks!

It is possible to turn off the links to the iTunes Store and remove the Genre column in the list view by manually edition iTunesPref.xml

I haven’t been able to find out how to do this in the latest release of iTunes 8.0.2.20.
There aren’t the required entries in the iTunesPrefs.xml file to edit.

From the macosxhints website:
If you’d like to disable the iTunes Store link arrows, quit iTunes, open Terminal, and run this command:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE
Relaunch iTunes, and voila, no more arrows! To reverse this behavior, you can repeat the above command (quit iTunes first), but replace FALSE with TRUE. (Or, if you prefer, you can completely delete the added preference with defaults delete com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links).

Has Apple fixed AirTunes yet?
This is a major bug and I’m afraid Apple plans to ignore it.

Sadly, iTunes 8.0.2, like iTunes 8.0.1, failed to resolve error -3256 when trying to stream audio via ethernet to an Airport Express. The AirPort Express has been updated to the latest firmware. This issue occurs only on my machine running XP SP2. About to roll back to version 7.6 so I can use my speakers again.
I have been able to use AirTunes / iTunes 8 without incident on a laptop running Vista Ultimate. Since one cannot sync a 2G iPod touch without iTunes 8 or later, I have to sync it with my laptop, which has a considerably smaller HD than my desktop machine. Plus, I have two libraries on two different machines so SmartPlaylists are not so smart anymore.
APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS!

I just updated my ipod touch to the 8.0.2 version and my YouTube and Safari icons disappeared. How can I get them back?

To disable the iTunes Store link (Windows version anyway) open iTunes and click Edit > Preferences > Parental Control tab > place a check mark on iTunes Store in the Disable option > Click OK.
That’s it.

I found this info which worked for me and thought I would come back here and share it for anyone else who visits.
This has been copied from a post by “onetimethang”
1) Shutdown iTunes
2) Backup your prefs file:
VISTA::
C:\Users\(youruser)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml
3) Edit the file in a real text editor that understands UNIX linefeeds (notepad++, ultraedit, vi, etc) and paste the following lines below the <dict> line under <key>User Preferences</key>:
<key>show-store-arrow-links</key>
<data>
AA==
</data>
4) Start iTunes and you should be set.
