Apple has begun sending out notices to various members of the media inviting them to a special event on September 9, one week from today. The invitation, entitled “Let’s Rock,” looks like an iPod Now Playing screen, with the album art replaced by one of Apple’s common silhouette iPod dancers, and the track information replaced by the event details. The “Let’s Rock” event will be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Performing Arts in San Francisco, and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. iLounge will be on hand at the event to provide coverage.

“I would seriously doubt the Classic being discontinued as it would leave other manufacturers a free run at the customers with large collections, like me (300GB and rising). “
Are you fogetting that this is Apple we are talking about? They have never hesitated to replace one technology with another, no matter how much potential the older tech has left in it, e.g. the iPod mini, G3 processors, Firewire syncing/charging, etc.
It would be sad if they did, but not unexpected.

first of all there not going to update the iphone again just yet and ther not going to get rid of the shuffle (what about the faithfull ipod joggers?) and ther most likely going to get rid of the ipod classic and replace it with a ipod touch 64gb. and for the new nano if its ugly again im not buying it this time.

They might update technology or product lines, phasing out still solid selling ones, but they rarely abandon costumer bases. The iPod Mini people ended up buying nanos for example.

Hopefully it’s an 80-Gig-Plus iTouch. I have over 72 Gigs in my iTunes folder and anything less than 80 will be hard to handle

Perhaps a hard drive based touch/classic with click wheel control via the touch screen, as in floating to the surface when you need it, in a classic form factor.
Remember all the patents on the software based clock wheel.

i have been hearing rumors of a grid in itunes 8 and though maybe they will make the coverflow into a grid. The layer across would be albums and scrolling down would take you to your videos, podcasts, and maybe even apps. then you won’t have to change through the side tabs. Also maybe snow leopard will be announced for a release date and demoed. I really hope so. Then I could ask for it for my winter birthday and make someone else pay. Just Kidding, but maybe…

It’s been 4 hours since 9/9/2008 10 a.m in Korea.. I’ve waited for New touch for 2 months with ‘not spending money at anything’. Will Apple know my super insatiable waiting? The most important point is price, I think. ^^*
