Apple to offer iPhone in its Canadian retail stores
Apple has announced that it will offer the iPhone in its retail stores in Canada. Apple will begin selling the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in its nine company-owned retail stores in Canada tomorrow at 8:00 a.m., up to two hours earlier than local Rogers/Fido stores, which up until now have been the only places to buy the handset in Canada. Apple operates four stores in Toronto, and also has locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal, and Laval.

I’m just wondering what would be the process and how are they coordinating their moves with Rogers/=Fido

AMEN to that!!!!
I’m in Toronto and I’ll take the Apple customer service over the Fido/Roger anytime! (I’m a Fido customer)
Now if Rogers could have more decent data plans and prices so I could please get an iPhone without having to sell a kidney for 3 years (threeeeeeee years man!) that’d be cool
Cagliostro -> I’m pretty sure they have some kind of way to make you subscribe to a Fido or Rogers plan.

dcivera: yes. for all new customers it’s easy -– they will get a contract with the phone. I’ll check tomorrow how they will handle upgrades.

The http://www.apple.com/ca/retail/iphone/ page provides a bit more information, as well as what to bring with you. They don’t specifically say whether they’ll be handling hardware upgrades as opposed to new activations, but they do indicate that you should bring your wireless invoice with you if you plan to do an upgrade.
According to the fine print, they’ll also be selling them contract-free at $599 for the 8GB 3G, and $699 and $799 for the 16GB and 32GB 3G S.
I’ll be at the Eaton’s Centre Apple Store tomorrow morning to pick up mine, which I’m expecting to do as a hardware upgrade, so we’ll see how they handle it. If not, there are a half-dozen Rogers and Fido stores within a five-minute walk.
