Apple is preparing to increase the trade-in values for the iPhone 4 and 4S in an attempt to get more customers to upgrade to an iPhone 5s or 5c, according to internal documents obtained by iLounge. The company will now offer up to $199 for an iPhone 4S, and up to $99 for an iPhone 4 trade-in when upgrading to a new device — allowing users to upgrade to an iPhone 5s for $0 or $99 depending on which model is traded in.
Apple store workers are instructed to “speak to every eligible customer about this great opportunity with iPhone Reuse and Recycling,” the document notes. An earlier report noted that Apple was preparing for an upgrade event this week, though it’s currently unknown when these new trade-in values will go into effect, or if they will be tied to a specific event.
