The new update definitely appears to be mostly bug-fix related. Some specific changes I’ve noticed:

- Podcasts downloaded directly onto the Apple TV now sync back to your iTunes library. They appear in the “Podcasts” section in iTunes with a “Subscribe” button beside them in case you want to actually subscribe to the podcast.

- A bug has been fixed whereby content watched from your iTunes library (as opposed to locally-synced content) would not have its play counts or last played times updated.

- When downloading a rented movie, the Apple TV now displays “Ready to Watch” on the main rentals screen alternating with the “Downloading” progress indicator.  This is in addition to the pop-up that normally appears once a download-in-progress is ready to watch.

- In general, the performance seems to have been improved slightly when scrolling menus and displaying album/show artwork from non-local content (ie, images loaded from the iTunes library).  In the very least, the Apple TV no longer shows a “No Artwork” placeholder while loading the artwork image, which at least makes it seem smoother in that regard.

You guys should hold off on the update, it’s breaking Apple TVs left and right, including mine. After the update, my unit will not stay connected to iTunes, so no streaming or synching. I’ve done a factory reset and reinstalled iTunes, but no help.....

gershom, this is major broad. Do you mean the wireless connection is being dropped? It would help to know at least some specifics… Thanks.

chashulme in Southern California, if you can help, I and many folks over on the Apple boards will be very happy. Yes, I mean that the wireless connection is dropping after less than 5 mins and this behavior started after updating to 2.01. Both my pc and the aTV can still see the network at full strength and if I close and then restart iTunes, aTV connects briefly and then drops again. No other software or hardware changes have been made. I have a 40gig aTV and running iTunes on XP home.

This update from Apple was really overdue. 2.0 was extremely buggy. Our unit rebooted itself at irregular intervals when it got confused scrolling long lists, movies and TV shows were some times (2-5 times per showing) jittery, network connections were sometimes lost, requiring a reboot etc.
I haven’t spent much time with this update, but the first impression is that it is faster, a welcome improvement in itself.

Am I the only one who, even now with the update, doesn’t get up to date podcasts?  Its always about 3 days behind.

Seems like the “feature” of being able to play Internet radio stations on the aTV was now removed.
